I think the title "ISO" means - "Is/I'm Seeking Out"...

Or, "In Search Of"...

But I'm wondering if I should invest in the 10-22mm for the trip. Just for the wide angle shots. Any advice would be great.[/quote]

My advice would be to buy a Canon 10 -18mm lens, about 1/2 the price of the 10-22mm lens with no difference in IQ, imho!

Yes. Why miss an opportunity to capture a wider view of some of natures best work? Enjoy your trip.

Another alternative is to rent the lens you are interested in. That gives you a chance to try it out on the trip, then decide if that lens is a good investment for the long-term.

I have used and recommend: https://www.lensrentals.com

Good suggestion on renting a lens. Suggest contacting Tempe Camera and Repair in Tempe for rental. A few minutes East of I-10, you can stop on your way North, pick up lens, continue on. Reverse for trip back to Tucson. Great people to work with. Save the space in luggage. Lol

If you are at the Grand Canyon, you do not want to limit your self in any way ! More options are BETTER ! - including HDR and panos.

I need some input please. I have a Canon 18-200mm lens that I plan on taking to the Grand Canyon, in April. But I'm wondering if I should invest in the 10-22mm for the trip. Just for the wide angle shots. Any advice would be great.

Although the 10-22 is an excellent lens that every crop frame Canon shooter should have in his/her bag I an not so sure that it is a great lens for shooting the Grand Canyon, it is such an immense place and an ultra wide tens to distort perspective giving your images a completely different feel than what your eye sees. Important elements in the distance will become so small and indistinguishable that it may be hard to capture the feeling you are experiencing while trying to photograph the Canyon with an ultrawide lens.

Contact TCR and reserve the lens before you go. Great place. I worked there while attending ASU. Dave Hunsaker can answer most any photo question you have and if there are any camera problems Joe W. can get you going. If you do go say hi for me (Lawrence Huber)
The 10-18 is good for the canyon. But do not discount telephoto lenses for close-up details or shots of the mules going down or an interesting bird or critter. So much to see there. Also do not forget some of the wonderful buildings and structures on the south rim and get photos of them, inside and out.

Look for a used UWA and learn to use it. I don't think on a trip that I spend lots of money on is a place to learn a new product. Just saying!

One thing to consider is that a longer lens can actually make a landscape photo of a great expanse more interesting because of the compression qualities of such a lens, many successful photographers employ this technique in their landscape photography, a wide lens is not always the best lens for landscape.

This is true but get a few wide shots anyway for comparison. Also some buildings or other things around the canyon you might not be able to back up far enough to get what you want and a wider lens allows for this problem to be solved. In other words be creative, and enjoy it as a whole and the atmosphere.
