You know that if you get the Apple, you have got the best- it just works, and will continue to do so; I had this same quandary many years ago, but ~I bit the bullet, and never looked back since- all my family are on Apple products now !

Hey Apple Jacks,
What colorized Gone With The Wind and most other old classics?
IBM (PC) based computers.

I used to know the guy who was the final QA guy on those projects. His computers were insanely powerful for the day.
And those were the days Apple was giving away machines to schools to try and get a toe hold on the market.

Remember, you can always go back to the Apple Store to get it fixed.
That is my standard line when the wife's IPad gets butterfly's...
TAKE IT TO THE STORE.

Peace at last!
Meanwhile, I just keep going, and going, and going, and going...

If your looking for just a Notebook on the Cheap, you can buy another PC. However, before deciding, look at the ecosystem of both.
I've both PC's and Apple. On the PC side, I've a Fujitsu Lifebook for ~8 years in which I've only had to change a CD/DVD drive which failed and a Toshiba which is in Heaven that was 4 years old. On the Apple side, I've had a MacBook Pro (8 years), a MacBook (~10 years) and an MacBook Air (2 years). They are all still working, no problems. I also have several mac desktops including my present workhorse, an iMac 27". No hiccups.
Biggest plus is, if I need help, I've an Apple Store down the street from me, and with little to no cost get solutions.
As for software, you will have to decide. With you PC, you can get by with your older software at no cost. With the Apple, you do get ilife package that contains, photo, video, audio editing. They are very good and a whole lot better that anything free on the PC side. Google Picasa is available on the Mac also.
Good luck deciding.

Buy the Mac - you'll never regret it. I switched about ten years ago for all of the reasons listed by the others who responded to your question and have never been unhappy with the decision.

A friend of mine is a computer expert, for some years he sold systems to corporations. He got rid of all his PCs and switched to Macs. He says all Apple products are made to work together.

Mac's are Lamborghini's out of the box... fast, built well... they are working machines. I have a 9500 that was on every day all day for 10 years. It still works, I keep it around to run an expensive UMAX scanner that runs in sys 9 that decided to not support OSX. I did have a tiny fan on the video card go, it cost me $2.50 to replace! LOL.

Still running 16 years later (Yikes... I'm getting old, I just added that up!) and still talks, is searchable from and to and transfers files to my newest MACS!

First I have been a Mac User for a long time, but I have also used PCs. My opinion is that a Mac is worth the extra money. If you make a true comparison, feature for feature, memory, processor speed, etc., you are likely to discover that a Mac is not more expensive than a PC with the same specs.

My advice, go with whatever you feel comfortable.

Good advice, Larry. I have been pic since they came out, but have gradually been replacing everything with Apple. I now have a great PC laptop, but all else is Apple (2 iPads, Mac, iPhone 6). When it is time, I will replace my laptop with an Apple.

iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone .... I've been an Apple user for two decades. At this point I could never change! Totally happy with their products.

Hi,

I have used Apple for many years and currently use a Macbook Air for photography along with an external hard drive to store and process images. Although I chose the Air before a retina screen was developed I would still buy it over the Pro because it is more than 2 pounds lighter and I do a fair amount of traveling. I have not had any problems with respect to RAM but you do need a separate hard drive because the built in memory is not large enough. A G-Tech 2TB drive costs about $100 from Apple or B & H. The separate CD/DVD drive is less than $100. I have one but rarely use it. I hope this is helpful.

I spend my money wisely, on a fixed income, love the price of PC's but the headaches and money I've saved on geeks ever since I switched to Apple is more than worth the investment!

....like all things made by Apple it comes at a price. It's at the very least, twice the price of an HP or something else comparable. For me to get that laptop, with the larger flash drive, the larger ram,and some software for photos and whatever, it's pushing the $2,000.00 window......

As suggested by others many times before, consider pricing out a refurbished Apple. More bang for you $ and, I believe, a warranty although I am not sure of its duration.

FYI, I use a MacBook Air for on the road work. Loaded it with larges SSD HD and as much memory as possible. Now 2 years on and no problems.

My 2008 Mac Pro, stuffed to the gills with 32GB RAM and 8 TB of internal HDs is going great (Have 16 TB RAID 5 external eSATA image storage). It now only needs new video cards to take advantage of offloading processing onto the GUI. I expect it'll go another 2-4 years.

Our family went from all PC's to 9 Macs. My son-in-law who writes code for NASA must work on Windows at work, but his home is all Mac except for a little tablet that he uses to control his TV.

PS I did load up Kaspersky Anti-Virus on my MacPro just in case, although I have never been hacked.

I have both a pc laptop and a MAC. The laptop can run specific health programs that the MAC can't but the MAC is far superior. It will take about 6 months for you to adjust the way you do things. Laptop also handles games better.
