I'd take that bet if you're talking about true golfers; ones who play on a regular basis. For the folks who go once or twice a year and never take lessons, I don't consider them to be golfers. I consider them to be a nuisance.

There is no mastering of the game. It's handicapped so anyone of any level (if you have a handicap index) can compete with anyone else. As Ben Hogan once said "any shot I hit that doesn't go in the hole is a missed shot."

That is why I said 95% and not 100%, the percentage of
true golfers is small compared to the hacks that go out there, I am one of those hacks that tried for years to improve my game until a bad back forced me out.

  my words to them are miss it quick! Too many people think they can buy a game with equipment and never take lessons but practice makes permanent so they keep their bad habits and are so slow. Rich

Drivers are required to learn the rules of the road before being allowed behind the wheel. Anyone who wishes to play golf should be required to learn the rules of golf AND the local course rules (such as letting faster players play thru...).

Have you ever noticed how many sets of golf clubs are for sale from individuals. Also all that fancy overpriced gym equipment. It's rare that you see someone trying to sell a really nice big beer cooler.

I came within three (3) strokes of making a "Hole-In-One" one time

To my golfer friends.

A Happy New Year to one and all

In My Hand I Hold A Ball, White
And Dimpled, Rather Small.
Oh, How Bland It Does Appear,
This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.

By Its Size I Could Not Guess,
The Awesome Strength It Does Possess.
But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell,
I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell.

My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same,
Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game.
It Rules My Mind For Hours On End,
A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend.

It Has Made Me Yell, Curse And Cry.
I Hate Myself And Want To Die.
It Promises A Thing Called Par,
If I Can Hit It straight And Far.

To Master Such A Tiny Ball,
Should Not Be Very Hard At All.
But My Desires The Ball Refuses,
And Does Exactly As It Chooses.

It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies,
And Even Disappears Before My Eyes.
Often It Will Have A Whim,
To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim.

With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land,
It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand.
Then has Me Offering Up My Soul,
If Only It Would Find The Hole.

It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup,
And Swear That I Will Give It Up.
And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow,
But The Ball Knows .... I'll Be Back Tomorrow.

A recent study found the average golfer
walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study found golfers drink, on average,
22 gallons of alcohol a Year.

That means, on average,/golfers
get about 41miles to the gallon.

Kind of makes you proud.
Makes you almost feel like a hybrid.
Going the e-mail rounds.  br br br ... (show quote)

Though not a golfer, I certainly can appreciate that poem.

Agree - golf courses should be handicapped based on players abilities. So Bob Hope asked Ben Hogan how he could cut 5 strokes off his game and Hogan replied skip a par 3. Rich
