Now this makes me happy to see. I absolutely LOVE my D7100, yes eventually I may wish to go Full Frame, but I truly am not finding any rush to do so now, my camera has performed well at every task I have put it to, the only failings being operator error.

Now I just need to clean my dirty sensor

At this stage, I can honestly say, I doubt I would be able to jump onto the FX wagon. It is just way too much money, for me, to spend on a hobby. If I could justify it by earning money from photographs, that would be a different story. But, there are so many incredibly talented, professional artists out there that use their cameras as their tool to produce amazing images... well, its only something I can aspire to. I am an optimist, but I am also realistic. So, I will be shooting with this camera for a very, very long time (I hope a long time..lol)

We have two 7100's in the family and two copies of Darrell Youngs book "mastering the d7100" it is the manual in English and cuts down on a lot of trial and error.I've put 40000 shots on mine in just under a year with no issues. I believe you will love it!

With the help of many Hogs, Santa listened! D7100 plus, my one and only (for now) lens, also chosen with a lot of Hog-help: Sigma 17-50mm, f/2.8. With my owner's manual and another gift, "Understanding Exposure", Bryan Peterson (guess from where that recommendation came) I will be very busy.

This would be an excellent addition to the Peterson book.

Hi Arlene!! I also just opened a D7100 for Christmas. I moved up from a D3100 and yes the new camera can be quite overwhelming. I recommend David Busch's book on learning the D7100 plus the field guide for in your camera bag (the field guide is a half an inch thick!!!). I am already on page 350 of the book and it has really helped me understand all the settings in a clear manner in contrast to the manual. Have fun with it, I know I am.

Congratulations, Arlene! My Sigma 17-50 stays on my D7100 most of the time. You will learn so much with that camera and from the people on this forum.

I like the peacock. We had them freely roaming the campus of the Naval Postgraduate School when I was there in the late 80s/early 90s. They can be loud!

Thought I would share a few of my very first photos. These were taken today at one our county parks. The donated property was once a working farm and, fortunately, all the original buildings are beautifully maintained, along with the original farmhouse. There are horses, pigs, cows, sheep and a beautiful surprise. I have never uploaded photos here. I hope its OK. I don't have a website or flicker account. Thanks again for all of you who help in what was a very b decision for me. Arlene

Congrats on your new d7100! It is a great camera. Having both a d800 and a d7100 there is no rush to go to an fx yet--enjoy what you have for now--rich

I used the Sigma 17-55 2.8 on quite a few indoor wedding shots and had pretty good luck with it. For me it failed miserably when shooting in bright sun light. In the right situations it is a very good lens within its limitations. Sold it when I got a 28-70 2.8 Nikon. Much improved lens but also used much more expensive than what I paid for the Sigma new. You do have a great camera though. It wasn't that long ago that wedding photographers were bragging about the Nikon d7000. Yours is even better.

Creative Live has instructional videos on various camera models with a good instructor. I've purchased 2 of these videos which made a good begging point. Also I love the Sigma lens you bought. It was my walk around lens until I switched to mirror less.

Norman, I'm use to point and shoot. This is a challenge, but it is something I have always wanted to pursue but needed to keep on the back burner. There are some advantages to retirement!

Congratulations on the new camera and lens. Great shots. David Busch publishes an excellent Compact Field Guide for the Nikon D7100 that can help you through the learning process. I have copies for each of my bodies in their respective camera bags. They are available at Amazon. I know there is much to learn, but enjoy the ride. You have first class equipment - have a great time with it.

I also use the D7100 w/a Sigma 17-50 f2.8. The Sigma is such an upgrade from the previous kit lens from my D3100. This is a really good combination which is yielding excellent results. A Xmas gift to myself was a B + W Kasesmann circular polarizer filter which I'm eager to use. I will be taking this setup to Alaska this spring along with a tele (rented). Congrats on your D7100 & Sigma lens. 8-)

 Looks like you are doing very well already! A flickr account is free and gives you a terabyte of storage in the cloud. Experiment as much as you can with the 7100, especially at different ISO's as it has very good low light performance.
