For me it's all about shallow depth-of-field, overall sharpness and Bokeh. Many 1.4 lenses fall into this category. For example, I have the newer 85/1.4G N Nikon. I think that it's very hard to take a bad portrait using it and I have also been using it for indoor sports with good success. Expensive, but worth every penny IMHO.

I think Nokon is Japanese for expensively

L is the designation for Canon's high end lenses. Since you shoot Nikon I'm not sure what that translates to in Nikon lenses.

I'm looking for a 24-70mm 2.8 af s Nikon lens. Any ideas where I can get a good used lens?

A good choice. KEH is the best source. I've used them for years and their condition ratings are conservative.

The Nikkor 24-70/2.8 is the best in class and some of the others are good. I've tried them all. If its in your budget stick with this one. It stacks up well to every prime in its range and goes everywhere with me.

I second both KEH and the Nikon 24-70 2.8. It is my "go to" carry around lens.
