All the "white dot lenses" are Canon EF-S lenses, and are made to be used on cropped sensor bodies only, like any body named Rebel, or 50D, 60D, 70D, 7D and 7D Mark II. The Canon EF-S lenses cannot be mounted to any full frame body, such as any 5D, 6D, nor 1D line.

MooMoo,

I should mention that I used my Tamron f2.8 300mm lens the last years my daughter played college ball with my Nikon 6006 body and it performed beautifully. It is an SP and LD lens so it also works with my current D80. I have had good luck in the past with the 300mm lens plus other lenses I had used on the 6006 body. I think you will be pleased if you make the leap. B & H did show the 70-200 f2.8 for about $1,500 or so when last I checked.

$ 1400 if you buy it TODAY!

thanks Bill, that is what I thought, but I could not remember the cropped frame nomenclature. The Canon 10,20,30 & 40's were cropped frame also . Had 'em all, whew! Ed

FYI, the canon full frame and L lenses have a red alignment dot, the non-full frame lenses have a white alignment dot. The L lenses have either a red ring, or are white for the longer ones... I have never tried to use a white dot lens on a full frame Canon, but it may not go on. If my memory is OK, the red dot lenses work on both. My daughter and daughter in law have all my "old" cameras and lenses, I have only retained the Canon f2.8 L 24-70 and 70-200 and the 5D mk II.

EFs or white dot don't fit ff cameras and can damage them.

I like B and H over KEH because B and H does not charge shipping.

I think this is the path I'm going to take. What is L glass?

L is the designation for Canon's high end lenses. Since you shoot Nikon I'm not sure what that translates to in Nikon lenses.

For Nikon, the newest lenses, made specifically for FF digital, have the N designation because they are Nano coated for better light distribution at the edges of the frame. Most of these are a bit costly but, from those that I do have, worth every Penny, IMHO! For example, all of the current "holy trinity" models have the N designation and are among the best that Nikon has ever sold. Outside of the big two, Sigma is also making some mouth watering lenses in their Art series. The Sigma 50/1.4 Art is highly regarded And prized by many.

....Good to hear about Sigma, I was thinking of acquiring a 1.4 because it was my favorite lens back in my Nikkormat days, but I am not really sure why.... Low light does not seem to be the problem it was back in the film days.. GBG But the 50/1.4 did have a resolution of sumpin like 80 lines/mm, not sure how that translates to todays digital world tho.... Tnx,Ed

For me it's all about shallow depth-of-field, overall sharpness and Bokeh. Many 1.4 lenses fall into this category. For example, I have the newer 85/1.4G N Nikon. I think that it's very hard to take a bad portrait using it and I have also been using it for indoor sports with good success. Expensive, but worth every penny IMHO.

The SP 28-75MM F/2.8 Di is a sleeper in Tamron's lineup, and you can get it for around $300 if you look. Constant f2.8 throughout the range.
