The adapters and Wein cells work but are a bit pricey. The cheapest solution I found was to use #675 zinc air hearing aid batteries which are widely available at most pharmacies, Wal*Mart, etc for under a buck each in multipacks. The #675 zinc air batteries are the same voltage as the old mercury cells so light meter calibration is not an issue.

You did not state which size battery your SRT-101 uses, either the large PX13/PX625 or the smaller PX675. My Konicas take both sizes and I use the #675 battery in both. They fit a bit loose in the 625 battery compartment but I have not had a problem. Should the loose fit bother you a small O-ring fitted to the diameter of the zinc air battery will create a perfect fit (the larger #625 Wein cell is simply a #675 Wein cell with a metal spacer to increase the diameter). Some of my cameras seem to have a slightly deeper battery compartment which sometimes causes a connectivity problem; in those cases I place a small ball of aluminum foil, about the size of a BB, to take up the slack.

Note that if you use the adapters in your camera you should NOT use alkaline cells in the adapter unless the adapter has a voltage regulation circuit built in. Alkaline cells have a steep voltage drop off as they are used which will cause incorrect meter readings over time unless the adapter has a voltage regulation circuit.

The PX625 I tried is the alkaline version. So, it's 1.5v. I'll try some 675's. I just ordered some Wein cells from B&H. We'll see which works best. I work for Batteries Plus so, getting the 675 hearing aid batteries is no problem. The adapter mentioned in 1 of the previous posts looks quite doable. One of the folks I work with is a retired electronics engineer. I may have him put it together for me. Would love to run some film through the SRT.

If any of ya'll Hoggers are looking for older equipment, World of Photography here in Columbus, OH has an amazing amount of used stuff. Everything from old rangefinder to Hasselblad 500C & CM gear, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta, etc.

That is the other half of the problem which I forgot to mention. The alkaline batteries start off at 1.5V, the mercury oxide batteries were either 1.35V or 1.4V, I don't recall which, so with fresh batteries the camera meter circuit is going to see a higher voltage off the CDS cell and underexpose the image. Then as your batteries age, the voltage drops below 1.35V/1.4V, the meter interprets the lower voltage as a darker than actual scene and overexposes the image. The old mercury oxide and new zinc-air batteries are fairly constant voltage over their service life so they will give consistent meter readings.

Just got a Gossen Luna Pro light meter (used) from B&H. Forgot that there had been a thread about an adapter to use newer batteries in devices designed to use mercury batteries. Ordered the recommended adapter today. Do any of you Hoggers know of an adapter or can you recommend a battery to use in an old Minolta SRT-101. It takes the same battery as the Luna Pro but, only 1.

you've got good replies to your question. just wanted to add, if you are using minolta rokkor prime lenses, you are using some of the finast in the world. the gentleman with the leicaflexes can tell you this, since some of his lenses are made with rokkor glass!
me- i use and sr-7, srt-101 and an xk, and all because of the rokkor lenses.
good luck!!!

I just checked the battery in my Minolta SRT 102. There are markings in the form of numbers, 625 and 19A, and a + sign. There are no other markings. I can not remember when this was purchased but the camera was used last in 1980. This battery is officially DEAD.

Should be a PX625 or equal. An interesting point, mercury oxide cells have reverse polarity from present day button cells. In mercury cells the small "button" on the top of the cell is the negative pole, while the entire large outer shell is the positive pole, just the reverse of the current convention. Thus when using modern cells in equipment designed for mercury oxide batteries, do NOT follow the illustration showing the PHYSICAL battery orientation, instead note the "+" or "-" designation and install the batteries accordingly.

Checked reviews for batteriesandbutter.com on resellerratings.com and epinions.com. Most were not flattering. Don't think I'll order from them.

Just got 3 Wein cells from B&H. Unfortunately, the Gossen Luna Pro I received earlier this week doesn't recognize them or the adapter that uses LR44 batteries. Got an RMA from B&H so, I should have a replacement by the end of next week.

The SRT-101. What a great camera. It is now at my daughter's house. She couldn't part with it as well as my old 2-1/4 inch camera. Not that she uses them. She just can't part with them. The Minolta SRT-101 produced incredible colors.

There's a shop here in Columbus called World of Photography that sells an amazing amount of used gear. They have a special room called the flea market. The last time I was there, I counted 3 or 4 SRT-101's as well as a multitude of other older Canon, Nikon, & Pentax SLR's. It's a dangerous place to visit.

Which batteries did you get? I use Wein MRB625 (B&H # WE625, Mfr # W9901201) in my Luna-Pro, Leicaflex SL and SL2, and the package says they replace PX625 & PX13 for Gossen Luna-Pro and Minolta SRT, as well as other cameras.

Those are the one's I got. They work fine in my SRT but, the battery check on the Luna-Pro just sits there & looks stupid. No needle movement at all. B&H is replacing it. I've also tried a 675 hearing aid battery with a rubber O-ring to keep the battery centered in my SRT with good results.
