To me it seems that if you had something to say you would post right away.
And if you didn't have something to say, then you wouldn't join.
I suspect another marketing plant trying to propogate comment and traffic.

what a dumb shit thing to write. I joined the Hog and didn't write a question (or comment) for at least a month. I joined to learn something and I did.

You hit a nerve.

Several weeks back I posted the 'lens change' issue. It got me super help. Many things that I've never heard of before.

I had never turned off the camera while changing lenses or anything else and don't think I had any problems.

After most of the mighty 'HOGs' had convinced me to turn off the camera, when changing anything, I began desperately trying to remember to 'turn it off' everytime and mostly did so. Remember, prior to the post I never had a problem.

Well, I forgot while extracting an SD card with the camera on after a 'shoot' and lost some 400+ images of that project.

Was the learning curve of the post now a jinx?

Fortunately I had the Nikon restore program and salvaged most of the photos but had to go through 32GBs of images to find them (they were not all together).

I don't believe I will now ever forget to 'turn the camera off'. And thank all of you who responded with your 10 pages of help. Vinny

Hey Vinny,
Sorry to hear of your mishap. Hard way to learn, bud.

Anything electrical is better shut off before any components are changed, dislodged, removed or replaced.
The exception is where the manufacturer sez it is "hot swappable", like a USB port (for example).

Anyway, I'm not the one saying that, the camera manual sez it.

Sorry you blew your pictures. Glad you didn't blow the camera.

I have joined awhile back and hardly ever post.
I do enjoy this forum, but before I can post the regs, usually
answer the question that someone has asked. I really dont like to chew the cabbage twice , as the saying goes. <G>

Just my 2 cents :-)

Bud Root, dont worry about the camera, yuou are fine.
I use several brands and I cant tell you how many times I have forgotten to check to make sure i had both lense and camera set to auto or manual. Nothing went badf for me with the equipment so far.

I joined weeks before my first post. I was trying to get a feel for the group as a whole meaning: how welcoming are they to newcomers, dumb question handling, etc.

Just because I didn't post doesn't mean I'm a marketing plant.

Welcome jbaird!

I wonder what kind of fertilizer one puts on a marketing plant?
I use composted manure on my gardening. Love the smell!

I have a D7100 coupled with a Nikkor AF S 18-200 VR lens. I accidentally tried to take a photo with the camera on AF and the lens on Manual. According to David Busch Nikon warns against doing this as it could cause damage to the camera. Called Nikon and they didn't think any harm would be done. Changed the lens setting back to AF and subsequent photos are all in sharp focus. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. This has been a great place for me to learn. Just remember that there is always one in every crowd. Do not listen to those who ridicule. So many great people here and hope you have fun. Post some pictures when you get a chance.
