I have a D7100 coupled with a Nikkor AF S 18-200 VR lens. I accidentally tried to take a photo with the camera on AF and the lens on Manual. According to David Busch Nikon warns against doing this as it could cause damage to the camera. Called Nikon and they didn't think any harm would be done. Changed the lens setting back to AF and subsequent photos are all in sharp focus. Any thoughts?

Yes, my thoughts are that it is pretty strange for someone to join a website and then wait 2 weeks before their first post.
To me it seems that if you had something to say you would post right away.
And if you didn't have something to say, then you wouldn't join.
I suspect another marketing plant trying to propogate comment and traffic.

EDIT:
And I answer within 11 minutes, and yet the "new user" who wanted to know the answer to their question, is gone.

On Nikon M will override AF (or M/A). This will be the case no matter if the the camera is on AF and the lens on M or vice versa.

Seriously? Some people join and don't post for months because they are content to just read all the posts and gain information.
As for being gone in 11 minutes: not everyone stays online all day long.
What was the purpose of your comment ? I found it to be rather rude.

To the OP: glad you still have sharp focus! Share some photos in the photo gallery when you get a chance.

And welcome!!

I had no idea there was a time limit for first post.

I guess I'm doing something wrong. I'm not gone at all. I just want to be a part of your group. I joined and then 2 weeks later have a question. Why ridicule me. I mean no harm. Lighthouse your suspects are dead wrong. I'm 75 and have enjoyed photography all my life. Sure not a very friendly welcome to the group.

Pay no attention to the complainers, nit-pickers, whiners, or the generally uncivil.
Welcome to UHH Bud.

Wendy, you beat me to it. LH was completely out of line, but this is par for the course with him.

To the op.. No, you can't damage the camera by mismatching the A/F switches. :-)

Hi Bud,
Welcome to the Force...

You have entered an addictive land of truths, myths, fantasies, ghosts, goblins and good old fashioned advice (whether you want it or not)...

Seriously though - the folks here have lots of good advice and a couple of days of experience and are willing share what they can - don't hesitate to ask detailed questions, in fact, the more details, the more accurate the answer ;)

A couple of links to help you navigate the forum and a couple of resources to hopefully answer your questions or guide you in your quest...

Ask away and post away - looking forward to seeing some photos.

Glad you're here. I'm 62 and hope to be 75 someday! There's lots of helpful folks here. Ask questions, learn and then pay it forward, for the most part this is a very friendly place.

I did not ridicule you in any way at all.
I really hope you are genuine instead of just being another of the marketing plants.
I also mean no harm.

Not sure what is meant by "hang around". I'm not going to respond to questions I don't have the answer to. I'm not going to ask questions I don't need answered. I read each UH topic I have an interest in. Thank the rest of you for responding to my concern and making me feel welcome. Enough LH.
