It was something like $1.50 per $100 of insured value. Higher then some, I'm sure, but:
1. I specify the replacement cost of each item based on current pricing at a major supplier. B&H in my case.
2. It covers any damage or loss for any reason (except intentional) any place in the world.
It's a small local insurance company that I don't remember the name of offhand without the policy in front of me. My wife normally pays those bills. I just hand her money when my policy comes due. They carry several other policies for us and are very reliable.
Your insurance agent should be able to give you several similar options.
I am amazed that best buy is still in business. I have had nothing but bad experience with their return and repair policies! Not only did they Jack me around, but their knowledge and expertise is totally non-existent!

I ordered my Nilon 105mm macro lens from Best Buy because they price matched the competition and offered 18 months interest free finance. I alsoopted forthe 3yr acidental protection plan from Geek Squad.
Has anyone had any experiance with Geek Squad's accidental protection plan?
Been trying to get some specifics about the terms and conditions of the plan from Best Buy customer service but they seem less familiar with the coverage than I am. Trying to find it on thier website is like finding a needle in a hay stack

I bought a Sony HX9V from Best Buy with whatever the extended waranty was at the time. It stopped working after the factory warranty timed out. Best Buy shipped it to Sony's repair center in Laredo, TX where it was fixed. There was no charge to me.

Years ago, I bought an internal hard drive at Best Buy, and a salesman suggested that they install it and set it up. It would take about 30 minutes. Sure. Why not. Well, I had to leave the computer. Thirty minutes turned into a week. They had a "problem." It took them quite a while to diagnose the problem, and they expected me to pay their hourly fee while they did it. After much "discussion," they let me off without paying the diagnosing charge.
Now, of course, I know better. Installing a hard drive is child's play, and Best Buy is Best Avoided.

I wonder if a 700 dollar cell phone would be covered under the homeowners policy?
In January I was going to purchase a new laptop. I want to thank everyone about their experiences with them. I will stay away from BestBuy.
Forget Best Buy's policy. Get a rider on your home owners insurance for REAL peace of mind.

When I bought my 2nd or 3rd camera from Best Buy I got the protection plan. The point and shoot Kodak camera was a 1.6 megapixel camera that cost me about $600. It died before the extended warranty was up and they (BB) sent it in for repairs. It came directly back to me and did the same thing. They sent it back for repairs 2 more times and it kept doing the same thing. So they (BB) finally said go pick out anything I like that is around $600. So I did and by then I was able to exchange it for a 6 megapixel Canon point and shoot that was very small. In this case, it was worth it and it paid off. But most of the time you never collect on these plans but they are (for some people) good piece of mind. If you think about it, that's all insurance really is - isn't it?

I did that with my first digital P&S. It quit. I took it to Best Buy. They looked at it and just let me pick out a new one. Didn't even try to repair it. But that's the last time I got an in-store warranty. It's also the last time I needed one.

If coverage isn't already included in you homeowner's/renter's policy, it can be added under a Valuable Personal Property rider for fairly low cost. That way, as you add/subtract gear, you're still covered as long as you own it not for a limited amount of time.

YES!
I pay for coverage on Everything concerning my photographic equipment - and liability as well. total cost for one year of coverage (Which covers NEW replacement of ALL equipment - like if my Canon 5D Mark II gets stolen the policy covers the replacement to a new Canon 5D Mark III) = Is Only $250.00 U.S.D.

I don't understand why you went with that "protection", before knowing any of their specifics!!!
Thank you all so very much for the feedback. I have a Chubb insurance and I have thier "Master Piece" policy for my home owners insurance. I feel ashamed that it didn't occur to me to add this to my policy as I have a large number of antiques and works of art scheduled as listed items on my policy. I guess subconciously I am still trying to block from my mind all that I went through with having to deal with the insurance coompany for damages sufferd as a result of super storm Sandy. However I must say Chubb did cover all of the listed items which were lost. In fact now looking again at my policy they will pay up to 150% of the listed value. I think that along with the 5 yers from Nikon and I will be well protected.
I have purchased from B&H in the past but the 18 month interest free finace was a nice feature. The lens arrived today and all was as represented.

You got lucky and so did I because it's the last time I needed one too.
