The story I heard was that Picasso was having a Picnic under the Apple tree, by the Windows of his house, and using his Pad to sketch the Google-eyed ladies of the Farmville neighborhood as they ran away from the Angry Birds.
But, I could be wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong, according to Google, Picasa will cease on 4/19/12.
Picasa isn't going away it's one of Googles most popular products. Instead, according to two sources familiar with the matter, Google intends to rename Picasa Google Photos.
Google is taking over lots of companies. It looks like Picasa is one of them.
Google has always "owned" Picasa. It is called "Google Picasa".

I'm easily confused. I'm getting Picasa mixed up with Picnik, which is changing.
MisterWilson - you are a funny fellow!

I just downloaded the update (I had 3.8 and it went to 3.9) Do the pics from the old version reappear in the new version or do I have to transfer everything over manually?
Tried to download picasa after I upgraded to MAC Lion, no-go. Thanks for nothing google.
It works fine in Lion and i just upgraded last night.

Picnik will cease. Picasa will still be around.

The pics are only referenced from their location wherever you store them on your computer. They
should reappear.
If it does change I would expect it to morph seamlessly into something that represents an upgrade.
Picasa is the host of G+ albums. Users of G+ can upload unlimited albums of medium high res pictures and share them free of charge. Highly recommended BTW. The pictures are also separately accessible in Picasa itself for editing, changing the order etc. and the intent may be a closer integration into G+.
Since thousands, (millions?), of people are using this I don't expect Google to dump it. I for one will be letting them know my feeling if they do since I have several thousand pictures stored there.
PS. It seems highly unlikely that Google would have released an update to Picasa, about six weeks ago, if it were to be discarded.
You are correct, it is Pinick that is being discontinued. As I understand it, some of the features will be incorporated into Picasa.
I'm not sure if G+ is still invitation only. If it is and anyone needs an invitation let me know and I'll send you one. It's a terrific networking medium and allows very easy control of who sees each posting.
