Personally, I would never buy a camera at the end of its life unless I where getting a huge discount.
End of it's life? Who are you kidding? The OP most likely used his D80 for many years, and will receive just as much use from a new D7100. At 24Mp, it will be hard to significantly beat, without going to full frame.

Hey Douglas, SS is just looking for company with his misery.

Put an end to everything and p.m. MT Shooter, he owns a camera store, and see what his price is on a 7100.

I'm looking to upgrade from my Nikon D80 and have narrowed it down to four cameras. The Nikon D7100 and D5300 or the Cannon EOS 70D and 60D. Any help would be great.

No contest: D7100. If you must shop by price, look at refurb or ebay.

Hi Tom, I understand you're problem.
Let me just say this.
I bought the D7100, 70D, and the Sony NEX 7 to compare.
I used the Canon and Nikon with Battery Grips and Tamron 18-270mm Lenses because I'm tired of carrying and changing lens and dust on sensors and dropping Expensive Lenses.
I finally chose the Canon for the following reasons.
The grip on the camera was better. ( I can curl my fingers around the grip better)
Exposure compansation was easier to use. ( just turn the back dial)
The buffer allowed more photos before filling up. ( Nikon only 6 frames JPEG )
Both batteries could be removed without removing the Battery Grip.( as in Nikon)
The Nikon looks Great though.
Just my 2 cents

I shoot Sony, but since you are familiar with the Nikon I think you should stay with this brand.

I shoot Canon and Sony, but, if you already have a Nikon camera, I would strongly recommend you get another Nikon, especially if you can use you old lenses on the new body.

I'm leaning towards the D7100, has anyone heard of The Digital Pros, they have prices that are lower than anyone else. Are they legit or Grey market.

Rowls1 I got a refurbished D7100 body from Cameta which only had 6 shutter actuations on it. Just like brand new, works great. I highly recommend you check them out. I made my decision based on several comments here about the great products & service Cameta provided. 8-)

I have not heard many positive experiences about this seller. Google them and you will see how others have been ripped off. I would not recommend them at all.

If you already have a Nikon it makes a lot of sense to me that you stay Nikon. The D7100 is an excellent choice. I am not familiar with the D5300.

You might compare them on snapsort.com and dpreview.com.

Personally I'd get the D5300 over the D7100 (having owned a D5100 and D7000). Primary reasons are the lighter weight, method of changing settings, and most importantly articulated screen. They take the same images.

I can endorse Cameta as well. They are equal to Adorama and B&H.

I sold all of my lenses with my D80.

Ah, I was going to say the only reason I'd suggest a D7100 over a D5300 is if you had lenses that needed the focusing motor in the camera. All new lenses have focusing motor in the lens.

I had the same question as you (Rowls1) posted. After several months of research and asking the same questions on this site. I switched from a canon to the D7100 with Sigma 13-300mm. This was my rational-Yes the new D7100 or as it might be called D7200 will have new technology but with new technology come higher price. The D7100 will hold up better in the environment that I live in-Pacific Northwest. Which in turn longer life of the camera. I purchased the D7100 refurnished from http://www.cameta.com/index.cfm?fa=display.search&page=1&keywords=refurb%20d7100 as jerrc41 posted. It has the same warranty as a new camera. I then went over to B & H photo and bought the Sigma 18-300mm because I didn't want to change lens all the time like I had did with the canon and its two lens. I use my camera for travel, family, and wild life. Look around and research what you buy. A lot of the kit packages have good prices but you need to investigate the lens that comes with the package. The most important advice I can pass along is-Do your research and you will be happy with the camera you will finally purchase. Be sure to put the camera models in your hands before purchasing them and not strictly based upon price or what others suggest that you buy.
