Nice gallery, you have a good eye. I'm thinking about upgrading from the D5200 and you may have sold a D7100!

Thanks Mr PC I am not selling them, but maybe I wish I was, I couldn't be happier with mine, I think it's a great camera.

I swear by B&H Photo. They have everything and are very helpful with choosing the right camera, lens or accessory. I have the Canon 60D and love it. The 70-300mm lens is good but for a bit more you can get the 70-400 now. Get a GOOD tripod. Even if your subject is moving, one with a pistol grip/ballhead will keep your shots sharp.

One more question, I've looked at cameras on line at ritz, ebay, best buy, conns, and went to ritz/ wolf cameras etc. I've look at package deal. Are the good deals or just buy the camera or get the other stuff later. Thanks again for everybodys imput.

Looking at the Canon D70 or the Nikon D7100.The reason is we show horses. And we need something that will work. In arenas so the lighting is different than out side. And outside photos with action. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate.

Either one will be fine. As a Nikon user, I would get the D7100, but you can't go wrong with either. It's the choice of lenses that's the real issue. The faster the lens, the less light you'll need.

Take a look here, a discussion of indoor basketball - action in not-bright light.

Congratulations on your decision to get a good camera. I have both the 70D Canon and the D7100. I Have found that accross the board the 70D is much clearer and the tilt/touch screen is great. The low light is pretty good but not as good as the new 7D Mark II which in and of itself as many good attributes and the auto focus and clarity of this lens is phenominal! But the pricier of the three. Hope this helps but the long and short of it is the Canon 70d (Also for the future your lens options are huge!!)

I recommend you also consider Sony cameras. In recent years, Sony has manufactured a variety of digital cameras and quality lenses at competitive prices.

To be absolutely honest I would not recommend either. Indoor arena shots would improve drastically with a full frame body like the Nikon D610 over ANY crop sensor body. Much higher ISO performance and the price is not very much more right now.

Also, for the lens will you be taking long shots or close shots?

Delicious pudding! Great stuff.
Would you care to share what kind of lens/es you were using for the birds and animal pictures (very sharp and colourful images! :-))

think you should start with a Sony A3000 or A58. They will both be great at action and low light and do not cost too much.

A6000. Extremely fast focus, very good low light, lite weight. Cheaper than what you're looking at.

Having spent much time photographing horses working in a covered arena, I suggest you invest in the most powerful external flash you can find, regardless of which camera you finally select. With bright light coming in from open sides, without flash all you will get are shadows. The built in flash will not be powerful enough. You will not have to spend much money as good used flashes are available on ebay. If your budget is small, the old Vivitar 283/285's are very powerful, work well enough manually, and the voltage is low. Practice before trying anything important.

What is your favorite lens for your D7100?

I would listen to MT Shooter. I do know in dim light you want a fast 2.8 lens or better. I don't think the 70-300mm is good enough. I used one outside for football.

This truly is a forum for the Canon and Nikon gang. And they will very rarely reccomend other brands. I don't believe that what you should be primarily concerned about is "what camera, what BRAND" it hardly matters these days... What matters is glass quality.. Actually, what lens for your type of interests. I just read where a recently hogg member got a Nikon 5200 and asked whether or not this was a good camera..... Why of course it is, but sadly he just got their cheapest glass times two ( 18-55 KIT & 50-200 KIT) Not the best investment in those lenses. Welcome to the HOGG, a place to exchage IDEAS. RJM

I believe that in these pictures, it is obvious that the photographer has lots of talent and a good eye, as well as imagination. But the real deal here is the lenses, not so much his camera.
