I purchased a Nikon 3100 a few months ago. Part of the manual came with the camera, part was on a disk. The page numbers seem to be out of sync.

See about getting a CD manual also. I found it far more complete.

I cheated. I have all of the pdfs for my equipment written to a cd that I burned myself.. this way everything is on one cd that I have in the camera bag. That way if something happens to my phone or laptop, I have them available.. of course I have the paper versions of the manuals on my bookshelf at home so that they are safe and sound.

A couple years ago I bought the Nikon D-800e which came with a small difficult to read manual. I purchased David Busch's manual on the 800e which was more condensed and easier to read. I would also recommend his book!

Was that the field manual or the full sized book?

I've got the D5100 Busch's book. I'm surprised you say more condensed! Mine's about 8 1/2 x 11 and over an inch thick. Yep! I'd recommend it too.

When my d3100 was given to me it included a "short" manual to get you started and a pdf on a disk where all the details are stored. The only problem with that is that you don't have the detailed manual in the field when you have a question.

Thats why I like the Magic Lantern Guide, they fit in the camera case and go every where with me. Paid about $7.00. Well worth the price.

I purchased a D7100 in early Nov-14. It came with two user guides one in English the other in Spanish. Printed on very flimzy paper.

I copied the pdf of the manual from the CD that came with the camera to my computer. PDFs readers support textural search and follow document links, so while i prefer reading a physical manual, i find it more expeditious to look up and solve problems from an electronic manual.

I also have the Busch D7100 book and have found it very useful in adjusting to the new camera. I 'graduated' from a D5000 and many things work just enough differently that his book has made my transition pretty easy.

Save trees my eye!

Save the cost of printing and supplying them. Do they think we are fools?

It's good to have the owners manual and you can download the pdf file to a thumb drive or cd and take it to Staples or Office Depot for printing and binding. It's not very expensive. I usually print my manuals at home and take the pages to Staples for binding. The binding generally costs around $5.00 and the paper and ink isn't too costly either since I use my laser printer and inexpensive copy paper.

Apparently Nikon no longer includes an Owner's Manual with their new cameras (confirmed with Nikon). Its available in a PDF file off of the interent, but there can be hundreds of pages.

Does anyone know of a source from which you can purchase a printed copy?

I have one for my camera purchased years ago, and I can't tell you how many times I go back to it for operational information.

My D7100 came with both English and Spanish manuals. However, there are several books that are much more thorough and understandable than the manuals. Two that I strongly recommend are: David Busch's Compact Field Guide for the Nikon D7100 and Darrell Young's Mastering the Nikon D7100. there are other comparable books for other camera models. Check with Barnes & Noble for choices.

Jerry: I'm surprised you have them. When I noticed they were not listed in "whats in a box" I called Nikon and was told in order to save trees, they are now only available on the internet.

I appreciate the source you referenced. Thanks.

"In order to save trees" is ridiculous. Trees used for paper pulp are carefully farmed and replaced to make more paper pulp. Not including a 350 page manual saves money, not trees. Paper pulp trees are not the trees gracing postcards of old growth forests. They are actually rather unattractive and bred and fed for fast growth. "In order to save trees" is an hilarious cop-out.

Canon did the same to me. I purchased a book by "David D. Busch". Excellent book on the 6D. Perhaps he published one for Nikon, look into it.

Weird, just recently (within a month or so) got my D-7100, and received the D-3200 I purchased for my daughter last week. All included manuals. The D-7100 didn't come with a disk, but the 3200 did. No biggie, I was just surprised.
