Help with a nonprofessional purchase.

I want a 5d mark iii full frame camera (Canon). I currently have a T4i. I have lenses that will work with a full frame: 100mm f2.8L, 40mm f2.8 pancake, and I would purchase a bundle with a 24-70. I will keep my T4i. I was looking at one Saturday and this man, a professional photographer told me not to get that one. That only if I make money with photography should I purchase that one. I should just stick with a rebel. Would I be making a mistake purchasing this camera or waiting for the 5d mark iv? I guess this gentleman kind of took the wind out of my sail. I know about the 6d, but liked the features on the 5d mark iii. Just so you know, I'm only interested in Canon because of my glass.

Tracy, if you want a 5D3, then get one. You do not have to be a professional to own one. In fact, the 5D3 is considered a prosumer camera. I swear by full frame. I am a professional and I want my wide lenses to be wide. The 24-70 is the lens that I make most of my money with. I love the 5D3 and feel that it is silly to wait for something that may or may not become available in a year or two. You should consider the 6D as an option. The money you save will go a long way towards the 24-70. However, if it doesen't meet your needs and desires, than get the 5D3. Most of us do not need electric windows in our cars, but they do come in handy on occasion. I bought a Canon F-1 as my first camera in the mid 70s when I was 15. I never regretted that purchase then, and most people felt it was more than I needed. Looking back, they were wrong!

I am a Canon mark II user and a hobby photographer for some years. I purchased my mark II when it was introduced on the market ! I have a printer that prints up to 13" X 19" by my computer. If you do not have to struggle to get the mark III you will be glad you did for years to come. The mark III is heavier than your rebel but produces excellent high quality images . Good luck on your future work and have fun. You might get some good images and go back to the salesman and ask him for some critique . He will be pleased with your "hobby" works !!!
If that is what you want and you can afford it. Buy it!
Expensive cameras or lenses will not make you a great photographer.
Learning how to use lenses and your camera will set you off on that road. [ You have good lenses]
It is up to you.
The 6D has Wi-Fi and GPS.
No doubt the next one will make you a cup of tea!
Lol

If you can afford it.Buy it and have fun with it . I think your name is just fine.
Thanks, I just changed it though. Because, I decided that the T4i is not the only camera I will be owning.

first thought is this person is intimidated by someone buying a new camera, whom, my run him out of work, because he knows that he is JUST not that good!!
you know the song....."if I tell you I'm a wise man, surely I'm not" {Kansas- Carry on my wayward son}
AND , if we lived by "his" theory 90% of us on UHH would be using "point and shoot" cameras ! and we would not need a photography forum to ask questions!
Buy what "you" want to buy!!
Ignore the "professional photographer." The only explanation that makes sense of his attitude is that he is not very good and thinks it is the equipment that makes the photographer. Therefore, he thinks, if an amateur like you gets the "pro" equipment, you challenge his status as a "professional photographer." So he has some ego problems. HE has a problem, not you. Dont make his problem yours.
Get the 5. You will have a nice APS-C and a FF.
Enjoy your cameras.
I like your way of thinking.
