What ever body or stripe, that is dream glass! Good luck to us all as we ponder, but let us keep on capturing with what ever equipment we have. J. R.

I'm not really struggling for the bodies. I'm pondering what to do. as I sit here looking at the available offerings to date, I see the 7D2 the best available for speed subjects (for reasonable price) and the D750 the best for landscape/night et al...again for a reasonable price.

Glass will be sparse in the beginning...150-600 for the 7D2

16-35 f4, 24-105 f4 and a 70-200 2.8 for the D750

I might also add a Rokinon 14 2.8 for astro.

The D750 seems to be VASTLY superior to the 5D3 in every way with the exception of 1/4000 vs. 1/8000 shutter speed.

Utter bull.

Yes, the Nikon sensors have a slight edge in DR at low ISOs. There is little to no difference at higher ISOs (3200, 6400 & up).

Differences in IQ are minimal. If you ain't gettin' great shots with one, you ain't gonna get great shots with the other, either. Particularly putting a 24MP camera up against a 22MP camera. If you were to get a 36MP FF model, you would have more potential for enlargement, but wouldn't see much or any difference until you made really, really, really big prints.

I know folks who use two (or more) systems. That's what works for them.

One of my favorite things about shooting digital is multiple formats (FF and crop) that can share the same lenses and accessories. I did enough of the mixed system thing, with all sorts of duplication and added cost plus more stuff to haul around, back in the days of film with 35mm, medium and large format cameras.

So, for me... No thanks! I'll stick with a combo of FF and crop that are within the same system.

BTW, 5D Mark III would be overkill and a waste of money for the uses you plan for a FF model. 6D with it's simpler AF system would be more than adequate.

Good points. The sensor for me is the basic building block for all other components, features, and accessories. I would think low-light/high ISO is the most important part especially for wildlife and sports. Arguably more focus points does not insure a better system, but I do agree a good AF system is as fundamental for good photographing as the sensor. I agree lenses can be critical for both uses, not more important than the aforementioned. While a few exceptions for lenses could be argued as what is "best" for a particular use, I think between the two major manufacturers and to a lesser degree some third party makers, lenses are very comparable in my opinion.

Go with that.

If you think an out of focus shot with great color and low noise is superior to an in focus shot that needs a little PP you stick with the idea that the sensor comes first.

But then you might want to avoid sports or moving wildlife shots.

Well if you concede that there is a "slight" edge in DR then it is not "utter bull". I would also point you to look at actual high ISO samples. If you're honest about it, you might see differently.

Pretty ego driven statement since you don't know me or where I'll be in photography in 6 months or a year. I'm not going to get into insulting you. I'll just invite you to stay out of this thread. The purpose of which is to get thoughts on the subject. Not ridiculous fanboy attacks.

Here's the deal:

I've been saving my pennies and selling everything I can find in my house that isn't nailed down in order to get a new body. I've been wanting a FF camera for the high quality IQ inherent on FF cameras.

I'm currently shooting Canon. (7D) So I've been thinking of moving to Nikon for the great DR and IQ available on their FF Exmor bodies. Probably a D750. High ISO as well as lowlight sensitivity and state of the, Nikon, art focusing system is a HUGE thing to me.

Then Canon did something unexpected...They created the 7D2 which to my surprise seems to be a really great sports wildlife camera. Unexpectedly good HIGH iso capabilities and the Canon state of the art AF system.

My Thought as bizarre as it may seem is to possibly get BOTH cameras. The 7D2 for My birding and occasional nephews baseball/basketball games. And the 750 for Astro/landscape/night/portraiture.

Thoughts anyone?????

If you've got the $$$ why not? It's great to be bilingual.

I agree with you. Canon makes much better focusing systems for wildlife and sports. You are right!

Now if they can make the same claim to a sensor, we shall be out of this discussion!! lol

As your use of each is very well defined, I don't see that you will be duplicating any lens.
The thinking you are applying is a little "outside the box" for some but seems (to me) to be fairly logical, as long as your intended use for camera / lens doesn't change then I would encourage you to go for it.

If you ever decide to do deep space shots then a telescope with a Goto mount second hand is a lot cheaper than a fast long zoom lens and would allow you to get some really stunning starscapes - I hope I haven't given you an attack of GAS. :) :) :)

I think you've drank too deeply from the Nikon cup ... why not a 6D or 5DIII or 5DII? Or just the 7D2 and wait to see what Canon does in 2015? Two systems sounds like a waste and the need to duplicate lenses, etc.

Your thoughts are good - except - you should ultimately be thinking Sony instead on Nikon .....

There are quite a few postings on the net telling of the Sony advantages - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wM_5nROeaw - Sony is the maker of most Nikon sensors. Sony has many proprietary cutting edge in camera functions. Sony is cheaper ! Sony is the future ! AND, you can use Canon lenses on the Sony e-mount with adapter......
