Again I suggest that the recipient may be only looking for a pocket style camera. That's what the average person prefers. If she's able to appreciate the extra poop of the bridge camera, then great. Unless she's a serious photographer, my guess is a higher quality pocket camera would be the preference.
I've seen S100 as low as $110 on the Canon refurb site. I picked up a SX50 for $315. Excellent buys can be had with patience. When in the hunt, hit the site daily until you see them cycle thru a sale.

I bought a P600 and returned it. I bought an SX60HS and I really like it. The SX50 should be very good.
David, do you notice any difference between the SX50 and SX60 in image quality?

ALL review sites give BIASED reviews. The advertisers that support them are where their loyalty is!!
I prefer the reviews from people on this forum for the initial impressions, looking at their images and analyzing the EXIF. Then the paid sites get a brief glance. Final decision is after I get
my hands on the item for final testing.
pixels I had been led to believe that the Lumix had more mp in the images than the Canon. I may be wrong. The Lumix rapid fire button works better and gives full sized images, where the similar setting on the Canon does reduce the size of the image.
I have the sx50, my sister bought the nikon p520. While it's not the 600....she's had nothing but trouble with the 520. It's going back to Cameta for warranty work, and she's borrowing my sx50 (again!!) to take with her on a cruise next week. Could be she just got unlucky and got a bad one, but she said when she comes back and gets the 520 back, she'll probably ditch it and go for the sx50.
Well....you all have confused me....I for one get buyers remorse and return a good piece of equipment....Ok the debate between a P600 and a SX50....I have a SX50 being delived tomorrow...Canon refurbish on sale 199 free shipping but reading that the P600 is better iq and are on sale for 277...My question to those who know...I take surfing sailing water shots and birding...Is the auto focus in the P600 as slow as I have read. Tried it in a Best buy and it seemed slow to focus and is the SX50 a faster focus/cycle time...is the extra 240 mm of the P600 lens really a harder out of focus shot for anything that moves...I can deal with a 50x and get pretty quick shots but after the digital 100x kicks in it usually is out of focus. Thanks all of you are a wealth of information
