I am looking to upgrade. Currently have Canon T2i. Have extra lenses and external flash. Trying to decide on Canon T5i or Nikon D3300. Suggestions? Mostly use for concerts (indoor and outdoor) and kids. Also thoughts on Canon 70D or Nikon D7100.
Thanks, Jackie

If you already have Canon lenses, why switch? I shot Nikon for 40 years before switching to Olympus micro 4/3 this year for reasons that had nothing to do with image quality, but, I'm sure I could have been just as happy with Canon. Both the 70D and 7100 are fine cameras and will handle what you need perfectly well.

This title needs to be banished from UHH unless it includes either three or more names or at least one model number. It is getting so tiring...

I have the Nikon D3300 and I can assure you it is a first class camera,I had the D7000 and this is equally as good and in my humble opinion, takes better pictures.

My point over and over to this repeated question.
We don't want the moniker Ugly Sheep - Nikon vs Canon Photography Forum do we? Well may be some do. :(

RJ, if I were trying to choose between a nikon and a Canon, I would not want to hear about Sony, Fuji, Pentax, Olympus not to mention Leica or Hasselblad.

Jackie, of the cameras on your list, I would go with the 70d. It's the newest camera on the list and the only one with articulating screen, WiFi and Auto Focus video(a first in the camera industry). That's a lot of value in a camera. Good luck. ;-)

I think that was rjaywallace (and my) point. If someone is willing to change lens systems why not look at other possibilities.

Welcome to the Hog!
You state that you shoot indoors for concerts and such. Can you use flash? Can you get close enough for your flash to be effective? How have your indoor shots been turning out? Both the 70D and, I presume, the 7100, are fine cameras, and an upgrade over the T2i, but for low light situations they can't match the Canon 6D. You might want to consider it if it is within your budget. Since it is a full frame (only EF lenses, not EF-S) it may necessitate a lens upgrade, which could be expensive and not worth considering. Just the same, before you buy anything find out what will give the best results for your situation.

Welcome to UHH. Both are good and it's hard to go wrong. The D7100 is a fantastic DX camera. Probably the best DX made. Good luck.

Just got a Canon 70D, moving up from a T2i. Main reason: I have quite a collection of Canon lenses. First outing with the 70D showed superior clarity and color saturation necessitating less post processing. Just one old man's experience to out into the mix. BTW married to an RN.

I mostly looking at t5i or d3300 right now. At some point would like to upgrade further. Black Friday has pretty good deal on D3300, 18-55 lens and 55-200 lens, both VR. All I would need would be a flash. I've always used Canon so not really sure about Nikon.

If you can afford to upgrade to the D3300 and buy replacement lenses, let's say the kit lens and one other lens for around $1,000, why not just get the 70D and use your current lenses?

Hello JackieRN:
Stay with Canon as you already know and plus the lenses you have will work with all Canon cropped cameras. Starting over maybe more expensive in the long run for you. Best of luck on your decision Jackie.

Jackie, the choice is going to bring great results, no matter which direction you take. The D7100 or 70D will probably meet your needs for a greater period of time since the bodies have more features, hence the higher initial cost. If you are looking to grow, these bodies would probably give you more opportunity. Since you already have Canon equipment, it may make more sense to go with the 70D which would likely be compatible with lenses and flash equipment you already have. If money is an issue, don't rule out factory refurbished bodies, and with Black Friday coming up, the Canon USA website may have some great deals. Good luck!
