I had a meeting across the bay in Oakland a few weeks back and decided to try the Golden Gate Ferry. I've lived in SF for nearly 30 years and have only been on the commuter ferry a couple times many years ago.

It was quite pleasant and so were the views. I took a few shots of the container ship Hanjin Germany. This beast is 1145 feet long and 151 feet wide. This thing holds containers 19 wide as you can see in the last shot. MASSIVE! See below for 4 shots taken with my 7D with a Canon 18-200mm lens.

What a monster. Who'd have thought a few decades ago that man could build such things.

Thank you Bee for your compliments. I bet you get some really cool stuff to photograph in the desert.

Another interesting thing is that sometimes there are 4 or 5 of these behemoths that come under the Golden Gate in one day. It makes you wonder what's in all these containers and where does all of this stuff go? The US clearly imports tremendous amounts of goods.
