Beautiful old barns. I wish they could be restored!

Thank you !! It amazes me that they lasted as they did and do, no paint. They are simply one more facet of America slipping away from us, the family farm is a rarity anymore

A lot of them are being restored, but not in their original state. There's big money in reclaimed old barn wood that's used in new "old" homes.

So very true !! the wood is prized and is showing up in so many new "old" homes

love your barn photos. we were in Tennessee in june and you are right, there are so many barns. wonderful to see, but sad they are falling down. we don't appreciate things till they are gone. sad to say. deb

Deb, I wish they would be shored up, sometimes they don't need too much done to them, but in our grandchildren's lifetime they will be lucky to see one. I have been up to the cabin,8 times in the last 2 years and this one finally collapsed in May, this year

What is it about old barns that we are all drawn to? Is it the unpainted wood juxtaposed with the surrounding greenery? Is it the vulnerable state of delapitation? Perhaps it is the appeal of a working structure in retirement.

I think all of that, plus subconsciously I think they, like the paintings of Norman Rockwell are the America of our childhood, good, strong, stable, and a shelter against the ills of our "new" world

These are great pictures Tad. I especially like #2. Some might think they would look better in black and white but I see in color, so most pictures I myself take in color. Any way great job and thank you for sharing.

They just remind us of the " good ole days " it is so sad they are being phased out as family farms and these large conglomerate farms take their place and it just is not the same feel

Wonderful series of old barns, all of them, including the black and white. I love to shoot them too. So many different designs and sizes. Those barns must have been custom built to the owners actual needs. Makes one wonder what kind of livestock was sheltered there and what kind of people took care of the livestock. Growing up on a dairy farm myself, I know that a lot of thinking and important decisions were made in the barn. What memories. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. Have a GREAT DAY!
