Gray Flying Grasshopper - up close w/Ext. Tube
I'm not interested in buying a Macro lens, so I opted for a set of Vello Extension tubes (from B&H) for my Canon lenses. I chose that brand because they're all metal. I think I get fairly decent close-ups with my EF70-200 alone, with 2.0x or 1.4x Teleconverters, and my EFS17-85, but I wanted to get a little bit closer - without having to crop much in post, and still have AF work.
We've had very little rain this summer - 6.5" below average. Its very dry, and grasshoppers have become abundant. I spotted this flying grasshopper chewing on the leaves of our
Zinnia plant, so I put on the 13mm tube and shot some pics. Here are a couple practice shots. HH. PP w/PsE8.
Comments welcome.

Oh you're getting much better than fairly decent, Gene. These are excellent. So sharp and clear.

:) Thank you, Angela! I appreciate your comments. The tubes sure made a difference in getting me closer without the colse restriction of my lenses.
My friend from L.I. tells me the raptor migration at Ft. Tilden (spelling?) is in full swing now. Have you been there, yet?
Glad you like these and thanks for looking.

I think you can stop practicing, Gene. These shots are great! Love how he's chowing down and not letting you disturb his meal at all.
