I look forward to the shots you get with that 18-140.

If it were me, I would take the 18-140. I'm not familiar with this lens, but if you need the longer zoom, it is there for your use. That Nikon 18-55, for a kit lens, is sharp. What a trip! Do you need a friend?????

18mm might be wider than needed. I really like the 24-120 f/4 Nikon lens. It has very high DxO scores. I would also consider a 1.4x extender. Tripod is a must or at least a monopod.

I am visiting Hong Kong in three weeks. I am aware that the streets are crowded, weather is warm, and there will be mostly sunshine. I'd like some suggestions as to which of these three lenses for my Nikon D5300 should I take for street scenes. Thank you, Jim

Sigma 18-50mm f2.8-4.5

Nikon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6

Nikon 18-140mm f3.5-5.6

I would take the 18-140, great range and good glass.

I spent 3 weeks in China this past summer. I took my D7100 with a Nikon 18-200 plus a 35mm 2.0. I never once changed the lens. The 18-200 did it all. All you'll need is your 18-140. By the way, I took a flash and never used that either. Have a great trip!

We have just come back from China. I took a tripod, but only used it once: waste of space and weight. I took a Canon 28-300mm lens, and used that all the time. However, it is a big lens and attracts a lot of attention, which is not great on the streets. But the most useful thing I took was a Sony a6000. It is marvellous for low light, evenings, streets and so on, because it is small and very fast. I would recommend you take your 18-140 plus a smaller P&S for places where you don't want a big lens pointing at people.

I actually took a monopod rather than a tripod on my China trip and used it 3 or 4 times. Light, easy to carry and when closed makes a great club and helps keep the guys offering "pretty ladies" at bay..
