LK, the real differences and advantages that you hear about between the two cameras my never actually appear in your real pictures.
The 6 is a stripped down semi-pro version of the 5dmkll. It's a smaller camera that when first introduced, Canon was billing it as a travel camera because of the file handling and small size and built-in wifi/gps. It also is theoretically able to focus in extremely low light.
The 70 by comparison is almost a consumer sports camera. It has a pbetter focus system and shots much faster. The 70 is closer to the 7dmkl for action than is the 6d.
What you shoot will dictate which to consider.
If you shoot only landscape, indoors and studio, then the 6 is a better choice. Don't plan on sports with it, as it has ONE cross-focus point like the 5dll.
The 70 is a much better all-around camera. Good luck. ;-)

The 6d is by no means a sport camera but to say "don't plan on sports with it" is selling it short. I purchased my 6d for my desire for landscapes but it has been used more for the sports my 3 sons participate in and has done a fair job of it. I think the OP would be quite happy with a 6d, especially for the type of shooting he does.

ISO 12800
ISO 12800...

I think what is being communicated is the 70D will out perform the 6D for sports because of the superior speed of the focus and metering. If I buy a 6D and I'm heading to the Friday night football game ........... ah ......... I'll grab one of my 70D's before I would grab the 6D .......... so long as you have a tele lens on the 70D that will open up enough so you don't push the ISO so high. I don't like to push over 800 on my 70D ......... a 6D will buy me another stop and a half on the ISO.

Yes, if one has a choice between grabbing a 6d or 70d for a sporting event the 70d makes more sense. Not everyone has more than one body to grab, so they must make do with what they have on hand. The OP is interested in landscapes and portraiture and the 6d would be the better camera for his particular interests. I was just pointing out that sports and the 6d can work.

Why not post in high res original so we can look at the data of your pictures ;)

Thanks! Noisy, but my son doesn't care. He just likes to see what he was able to do on the field.

That's very good for that high ISO ....... the grain is there but still not bad for that ISO.

I don't see blur which surprised me at 1/640

Why the Quicktime program .......

I guess I do not understand what this is referring to.

You need to do some more research as this is not correct. The 70D is the first camera to have DPAF.

You may also consider the 7DMII, depending on your budget, but the 6D would suit your needs for landscapes and portraits.

I am going to buy a new camera. I had just about settled on the Canon 70D when a friend suggested that instead, I consider the 6D. He knows that I like to shoot landscapes and portraits. He said that since the EOS 6D uses full frame, that should be the camera of choice. There is a price upgrade to the 6D so I am trying to decide if it is worth the investment. I have to have a reasonable explanation for my wife. What do you think?

Resale of a Canon 6D may be a problem. The chronic problem with "moire" patterns in video has impacted the desirability of the Canon 6D. The problem may be resolved by now, and the camera was always regarded highly for "still image" photography.

So, it may serve your purposes quite well.

However, I would only consider a 6D on the basis of two points.

Buy low, because of the history in video. Be prepared to sell low, because of the history in video.

It may be the best camera you can consider for what you want, unless what you want is video.

Again, perhaps the problem no longer exists but the history does. Buy accordingly after you do your due diligence for your needs.

At least an awareness of this issue may help you get a better deal.
