I have a dedicated sofa, cameras and lenses at one end, bits and bobs in the middle seat and bags, tripods, monopod, rain jacket and vest at the other end. It works, but visitors have to use cushions on the floor.
Mine is not neatly in one place so the wife is complaining .I will only put inside a vacant bedroom when the grandchildren are coming. Can you suggest or can you tell how you do it?
I have a small room dedicated for my photography equipment. When we renovated our kitchen I installed some of the old cupboards in this room. I made some shelves out of the old countertop. All my stuff is put away and everything is dry and easy to find. I also have a countertop in there so I can do picture framing.
A gun safe looks like a good idea . Will have to check to see if affordable . I use about three -three drawer file cabinets . Works fine but not as safe as a gun safe .
I don't keep my guns in mine but here's a couple of suggestions. I use a cheapy from Harbor Freight and I've put it in the back corner of a closet and used a couple of lag bolts with large fender washers into studs on each wall. I've also changed out one of the locks and keep the two different keys in different (hard to find) places.
Halliburton cases for the delicate stuff, Lightware cases for the not so delicate stuff, Panavision cases for the bulky and delicate stuff as well as field power, and a 350 pound extremely hard to move custom safe for the really expensive stuff and prop blank guns. I shoot movies as well as stills.

I also suggest owning a Border Collie ;-)
Excellent idea for the HF cabinet. My Doberman is a great watchdog also!

I have my two current cameras, their lenses, flash, manuals, extra batteries, etc. all in their cases and combined in an American Tourister rolling case because I use them daily. I have a spare bedroom closet shelf assigned to all my extra stuff, my old cameras, books, etc.
Now if I could only get all my computer stuff in control so it doesn't take up half of that spare bedroom and three shelves in the garage... :(

I collect old lenses and have seen a lot of wonderful lenses that have been damaged or ruined because of fungus growth. Personally if I had the space I would store my lenses in a plastic container that would allow light in to protect them from fungus growth, I would also consider using UV filters instead of lens caps to allow light into the interior of the lenses. Fungus loves dark damp places, well lit dry places will prevent fungus from establishing a colony, so a big clear plastic tub in a well lit room that is not used is perfect, much better than a camera bag or even a shelf in a dark closet or chest of drawers.
I have a small closet next to my computer desk. Took the door off, put in some shelves and that's my gear storage.
Me too, but the wife keeps throwing things in there. I just found a 50mm f1.8 Nikkor I'd been looking for for months. I'm in the process of pulling everything out and organizing things not on shelves. Hopefully 'll find my C clamp articulated "tripod" in the mess on the floor. It is handy to have it in my backpack.
