I have an entire room for my cameras plus I have my darkroom!
Impressive! A true shrine to the photographic arts!
I have a home office that is pretty much off limits to my kids. Actually, there's so much stuff, just strewn around (including various camera bags, light stands, etc.), that anyone else is afraid to enter. I'm considering a lockable standing office cabinet. You know, the kind that have two doors and adjustable shelving all the way up, but I do like the gun cabinet idea.
Mine is not neatly in one place so the wife is complaining .I will only put inside a vacant bedroom when the grandchildren are coming. Can you suggest or can you tell how you do it?
I go out the door with my stuff in cases, it come back in the same way an into the closet in my office. Occasionally the case is out and opened on the floor, because I am doing something with the camera. But in general it is alwsy in the protected case. Makes for quick exits too.
I just started getting all my camera gear together. I can't believe how much stuff I have gathers in 50 years.:) I went to home depot and got the metal shelves that have round poles so you can make them an height you want. Bigger camera stuff on the bottom and the smaller stuff higher. I have the first one full and going to get another one this week.:) I have been giving stuff away too. Some to the school and some to the young man up the street I am helping learn. And some to friends here and there. The camera bags I have collected are all going to the school for the kids in the photo club.:):)
Janny has made me some curtains to hang down all around to keep the dust off. It is working pretty good.:) But remember, put the back one on before you fill the shelves.:):) Erv Erv
I have a dedicated sofa, cameras and lenses at one end, bits and bobs in the middle seat and bags, tripods, monopod, rain jacket and vest at the other end. It works, but visitors have to use cushions on the floor.
Sounds like me, but have a harder time for my naps! :-D

I did use your method and as far as I was concerned it was the perfect way to store. However a higher power intervened. I found a cabinet the adjustable shelves and it had shelves on the door inside. Holds just about everything.

I keep my three lenses, extra batteries, extra cards all in my backpackWhich is stored in our bedroom closet. My camera case, tripod & monopod in our spare bedroom closet & of course my camera with my favorite lens & binoculars are always Within reach.I only have one camera so the storing of my equipment is never an issue,at least so far!😊
I split my time between two cities so I use a Lowpro backpack, large camera bag, a soft bag and my monopods and tripods in their respective bags. I am going to get a rolling hard case that will fit in the overhead bin of an aircraft. It's a real problem for me that I haven't solved yet. My wife is a decorator with a neat fetish.

I have mine in soft sided bags that hang from wall hooks in my den. One camera hangs in the open from a hook and is ready in case I need it quickly to capture something happening in the swamp behind the house. I also keep one P & S with 20x optical lens in my car at all times.

I got one of those white, metal/wire shelves from Lowe's. It's about 4' long. I have plastic storage boxes with the ends labeled - filters, straps, tripod parts, etc. Everything is out of the way, but easy to find. The lenses are in a camera bag near the shelf.
I keep my cameras near the computer - DSLRs and P&S.
I keep mine in the Pelican cases that I use to transport the cameras and accessories. I have the Pelican cases stacked in one corner of the master bedroom. No one messes with them.
