I use the Nikon 70-300mm, not the sharpest lens in the camera bag, but works so far. Can't bring myself to pull the trigger and purchase the Nikon 300mm f/4 VRII for around $6000. Looking at a few older manual 300mm f/4, and f/2.8 types. Will miss the VR feature in my telephoto lens, but I need a sharper picture.

Hey Shooter Not sure if we're considered the tropics, but got this guy here in Central Florida, near the shoreline of Lake Istokopoga. Darn things are eating the seeds off a common weed down here.

You did better than I by capturing very well a little bird. I took a nature walk behind the house with my wife, but missed the bird shots. I had a 70-200mm lens, but the water foul around here flee when one comes within 50 yards of them. Next time I'll lug the 400mm.
