Thank you Mt. I see a changing trend. I watched the women's tennis semi finals at the US open. There are a lot of Black lenses show up.

Well of course! You don't need long white lenses at a tennis court.

But I bet most of those black lenses had red rings at their front ends!

AaaHaHa!

I was at the US open on tuesday and I would concur that there were quite a few gigantic canons in operation . Lots of giant white lenses!

I would have though that the ratio for more Nikons would get higher as you get closer toward Montana. Montana seems to be the center of the Nikon universe!!
In all the classes I've taken(that's a lot) the ratio is about 2 Canons per one Nikon.
Also older people seem more likely to shoot Nikon than younger people. ;-)

I think your assumption about older people shooting more nikons is 100% on the money!

I would say it is because older people getting into photography remember the days of film when Nikon was the real pros brand and Canon was the wannabe on the block. Got my first SLR mid 60's, couldn't afford Nikon, got Miranda and was happy with it.

On a sunny day you can shoot with practically any camera and lens and get a technically good, even great photograph

The hard part is to make an image that is memorable for the right reasons. You can't buy a camera with an excellent composition button or even a select the right focal length button.

And most of my images are mediocre at best, hopefully one day my skills will be enough to satisfy my hunger to take great photographs, definately not there yet.

Somewhere in their mother's basement there are geeks in Tshirts, pajama bottoms and fuzzy bunny slippers working on those issues.

I keep looking for the composition correction button on my dslr, the manual has some vague references...still can't find it!

Ture. Coming from SJ, CA myself, I always wondered why I lived in Northern CA when it seemed like the middle. However, according to Wiki, this is the distribution.

Are Californians just not very good at geography? that map seems a bit off.

I suspect that the map is right but it is the Californians who are a bit off! :D
