Nikon vs Canon-what does geography have to do with it?

This past August, when I was vacationing in San Diego, Ca., I was curious regarding nikon shooters vs. canon shooters. I noticed that there were more nikon shooters(dslr cameras) by a ratio that I calculated to be 4:1. I found that quite remarkable after doing a similar survey in my hometown one busy afternoon in manhattan, NY, where I calculated a ratio of canon to nikon, 4:2! I thought the ratios from San Diego and New york would be very similar. I dunno. Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, everybody knows that California is the definition of normal! :D BTW, isn't Sharpshooter from northern Cal? All by himself he could change the percentages!

I think it definitely a geographical situation. People on the land masses of Earth prefer Nikon. Those people that live upon the water mass tend to prefer Canon.

Sharpshooter is from the Bay area, get a map of CA and measure, almost half the state is north of him.
Retired Geography and History teacher, just get the overwhelming urge to point this out every so often. Bay Area thinks they are northern CA, really they are in the middle.

Doesn't matter to me. We'll be in the Bay area next month. As long as the pilot knows where it is at and the ground doesn't do anything stupid while we are there then all is good!

Odds are long on stupid ground, but it is near San Francisco, those people are strange, not like us semi sane southern californians.

It's the start of the weekly Canon vs Nikon pie throwing contest. You had to ask? :D

I think it has something to do with the centrifugal force of the earth's rotation and fault lines. Photographers on the west coast are worried about getting pitched into the ocean, and they need a good anchor to keep themselves from being washed out to sea. So they buy Nikons!!

Since opening my little camera store here in Montana I have kept very close track of the number of my customers that have switched from one brand to the other in that time at the store. Nikon users to Canon-1 (he married a Canon shooter that had LOTS of lenses). Canon to Nikon-42. I think that tells the whole story in this little remote part of the world.
And the complaints I get from the Canon converts are always the same, but I won't get into all that here at this time as it really does not pertain to the OPs question.

Ture. Coming from SJ, CA myself, I always wondered why I lived in Northern CA when it seemed like the middle. However, according to Wiki, this is the distribution.

North & South CA
North & South CA...
