Yeah but something weird is going on with Canon. I was about to recommend a refurb 7D from Canon Direct but when I just checked there they had the price of a refurb at $1,200 which is $200 more then a new one from B&H.

A couple weeks ago I believe Canon had refurb 7Ds for around $800 or less.

The refurb unit at Canon Direct for $1200 was in stock. The next listing for a 7D body was $999 but it was on back order. The listing did not say if this was new or a refurb. Marketeers at work!

B&H still lists new 7Ds as being "In Stock" for $999.

They gotta pay for that drop in lens prices they just announced.

Heh heh, maybe so, but they won't get any help from me on that one.
Call me crazy but if I was in the market for a 7D I would go for a new one at $999 over a refurb at $1,200.

Warranty alone would be worth most of the price difference.

Canon's list price for a new 7D body is $1499, the same as the list price at B&H. B&H is offering a $500 instant savings, no doubt an incentive from Canon since no authorized dealer will lower the price like that without Canon's approval. I didn't see any mention of that kind of savings on Canon's website but it may show up if you put the item in your cart. I think it's more likely that they want their dealers to get the sales, plus not have to lower their refurb prices. It appears to me that Canon has offered a price reduction to their dealers in order to reduce inventory before the 7DII is announced.

I have no experience with 50D, but cant see much gain to you with 7D with that 50 of yours. .

There is one potential gain that comes to mind. That is concerning resale. With each new model, and each passing year, the 50 will eventually be worth nothing.
I would get the best deal I could find on a used 7D and get rid of the 50d.
Just saying. ;-)

Unless a guy badly needs the relatively small amount of money the sale of a 50D would bring, I would suggest holding on to it.
Something happens to the 7D and it needs to go in for a repair, the 50D would be a competent backup and a good thing to have laying around.

I agree, having a second body has advantages.

Oh absolutely.
When I'm out shooting wildlife I often like to keep a second 7D body handy with a 70-200 on for shorter distance opportunities.
If I didn't have it this past weekend I would have missed this shot of an alligator popping his head up in front of a seriously ticked off egret that had two spoonbills hiding behind it.

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone. I also appreciate those offering to sell their current 7D but I think I will go with new.

Hi Pokokarin...I would be delighted to have the conversation with you about my 7D. It truly is very lightly used. Please PM me if you'd like to chat on the phone, etc. I would just be selling the body...but I would include the card(s) I bought for it, charger, battery, of course, etc. Thanks. Linda

My wife said I would have to do without those advantages.
