Yep, I am using a 5 year old AMD quad eventually will upgrade, but that is not the only 10 second difference... some of the heavy duty Topaz programs allow me to sip coffee for a while.
Memory as I understand makes a big difference XP MoBo allowed only 4 gig. At loads the HD is used for scratch memory. I installed a 120gig SSD to act exclusively as a scratch for editing.
Your SSD is it for programs... SSD are about 10X faster than classic mechanical HD.
And I said "5 meg-bite hard drive!! How would I fill that up" thing have changed since 1985!!!

I just downloaded it. Got to dedicate some time to learn to use it. Since I know and am pretty good with PS but hate Adobe and disdain the idea of being in their pocket forever, I'm going to do it.

Having an SSD really makes a great difference. For normal folk, using it for the boot drive is best, but for us graphics fools, putting everything we use on the SSD is better. (Well, not long term storage, which ought to be on a separate drive and backed up for safety.)
I suspected as much. I saw PSP 6 advertized for about $18.
Earlier this week, the full-boxed PSP 6 Ultra was $29. (Still listed around $45-$50 on eBay as of this morning.)

Forgot to mention my box has 16 Gb RAM. System is on SSD, photos go on 2 TB HD. Some use another or same SSD for photos; I tried that for no increase in speed.
X6 opened in 25 seconds on my core2 duo HP laptop(yes it is old), but it still does the job. The majority of my PP is done on my desktop. Will try my i7 desktop tomorrow. Both machines use WD Black Caviar SATA drives.
I still really don't see anything to make me run out and get x7. A few seconds......big deal over nothing!

Lol. If I go to the site, I can load X6. No mention of X7 at all.
I had time to play a bit, interface very much the same. I found a comparison of the issues of X7 vs 6, but the comparison was compared to std x6, not ultra. So, if you have Ultra, what will you gain?? I will not list them, but many are not big issues... I have Topaz full line of "plugin... Programs" and Portrait Professional 11. For up sizing I ordered a Ashampoo program which is a copy of curved S technology (all S are curved?) which is right there with Fractal so reviewers say. Also some small program that removes objects from photos ... X7 calls it Magic Fill.
Adding all these together, I will sit tight for at least another year. If you do not have X6 64 bit, it is IMO worth the deep discount price.

No question running PS or PSP is a heavy duty task for our brains and computers... a heavy duty box is needed and RAM is very important as are the Graphics Cards.
Using a SSD for a Scratch Drive is an advantage according to Adobe, but it is sued only when RAM is consumed and the mechanical HD is used for scratch. Your 16 gig is sufficient that it would be rare for you to over spill RAM into the HD.
In contrast, my XP Mobo and W-7 home premium ( Premium???   ) is limited to 4 gig. So, thinking of the day when I may upgrade, the SSD will be of some use, like boot the OS, in the new computer.
We should all Have backup HD removed from the computer and stashed safe someplace if some EBola virus should bleed our data into a puddle. For that, I advise checking EBay for the item below... about $25
iStarUSA BPN-DE110SS SATA/SAS 6.0 Gb/s Trayless Hot-Swap Cage
