According to the information the f155 is for the D90 SB-800 or 900 flash so I should be set.
Continuous vs flash...
beside the justified lowdown given by Nikonian72 there is one major difference: The flash freeze the subject and as such limits the apparent shakes, so is a dear friend to handheld macro.

Please, please, please make sure you have the correct length for your camera/speedlight.
My D90/SB-600 combo uses an O-Flash model F160.
Well, when I researched the O-Flash for the D90 and SB-600,it told me to use model 155.Wonder the difference?

Here is a photo of my D5000 with an SB-600 & O-Flash Model F160. The SB-600 & O-Flash F160 set-up fits exactly the same on my D90.
Notice that the lens is dead-center within the light ring. Model F160 means that the length between center of flash and center of lens is 160-mm. A model F155 means the lens would be 5-mm closer to bottom of the (shorter) light-ring. Possibly do-able, but less room for fingers during focusing.
I did not realize that this was no a flash per say but a light conduit. It cost almost nothing ($36.00) but the flash itself, being Nikon made, is rather expensive.
Your hand grip is home made? It seems to be left handed and that is a rarity, especially if you have found a way to trigger the camera from there... I know at least one UHH user that would REALLY interested by your answer.

I purchased the grip 35-years ago. You see a repair where the hinge broke. I was aboard an aircraft carrier at the time, so the repair hardware is mil-spec grade. It is now the strongest part of the grip.
I can switch the grip to left or right hand. But left hand grip allows all camera controls to be operated by right hand, including shutter release.
