I started using BBF a few months ago and I love it. I have found two problems with it: 1) when you need someone else to take a picture, 2) I took a group shoot with a remote shutter release and it wouldn't work, has anyone else tried that and had success?

Someone posted this link the other day. It is a long tutorial on custom functions. It is Canon oriented and I don't know if it would be of any value to a Nikon shooter but.....I thought I had a pretty good grip on all of the custom functions but I really found this worth listening to.
About half way through he starts talking about back button focus and makes the advantages very clear. I recommend watching the whole thing.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on your post. I use BBF on my 7D - it recently went in to repair shop for new focusing screen and it now focuses on the back button as before BUT it also focuses on the shutter button as well. Didn't know this was possible.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

I suspect you need to go into custom functions and reassign the shutter button to "start metering" only.

I was hesitant, but now I have my cameras set for BBF. If you have more than one camera, you have to set them all that way, or you'll go crazy. The problem comes when you give your camera to someone to take your picture - if you ever do that. In that case, you can prefocus on the picture taker.

I use a single, center spot for focusing (does not work on auto). I put the spot right where I want it, and press the back button. Repositioning the camera and pressing the shutter button does not affect focus. Excellent results.

Don't know Canon. but in your menu system look for focusing with AF button only-I think.
