I'm planing a trip down to the French Quarter soon, I make sure to post some of the pictures.
FYI, I spent half my childhood in the F.Q., my mother was an Artist on Jackson Square.

Great place to grow up! For me it was NYC, which, in its own way, is also great. Different. Have fun at the game. Don't let the skeeters gitcha.

Being from MS, the mosquitoes and the gnats will have you for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert! LOL! But I love our Gulf Coast and I would never want to leave it.....it's just that awesome!

I live in Portland, Oregon. Portland itself is located in a valley between two mountain ranges. It all starts at the Pacific Ocean with hundreds of miles of pristine beaches. There are at least 4 distinct micro- climates in a hundred mile stretch from Seaside, OR to Mt Hood. At any given time of the year if you like one type of weather but not another all you need do is drive about 25 miles and change climates. I've seen it 55F on the coast, 100 in Portland and snow atop Mt Hood on the same day. If I want to visit the coast I don't even look at the weather forecast I just drive the 65 miles from my house to the beach and take my chances. It can be raining when I leave, sleet or rain atop the Cascade range but sunny on the beach. It's a weird life and a strange place to live. Always carry a rain jacket.

We can also decide to link from here the real stuff you want folks to show (I know it's a bit inconvenient) and use this forum for the snaps we want to share and the help we want to provide. It doesn't have to be about posting something you're not comfortable with what the admin might have rights to. This place has been more of a help to many. Just another opinion.

Admin did respond with the following which leads you to two links to another thread about the issue that was raised earlier and that I apparently missed, apparently along with several other folks.

"gessman, in the Pictures section, there is a sticky topic with the rules. One clause in the rules contains links to two posts that explain things." I'll go find it and see if I can be a little more explicit so it won't be so difficult to find and post the information here in a follow-up.

To get to admin's reply reference, go to the top of this page, click on "Home," then "Pictures," and read that page. Down near the bottom there are two links you need to click on that say "here and here." That's the response. All but one person who has expressed their preferences to stay or go has chosen to stay based on their reading of the response. I have not yet decided which I will do. Admin tells us what that clause "basically says" and further tells us that it is merely intended to cover admin in resizing of our pictures when we send them in too big. But, in my reading of that clause, it does not even come close to saying what admin says it basically says and it rankles me that there was no offer to change it to say what admin says it "basically says." Everyone seems to take admin's word as to what the intentions are but I have not responded to the last message with the discussion I would like to have.

For the record, I am not a "trouble maker," wish I didn't feel as I do about this, and have full appreciation and gratitude for this site and what it represents up to now in the way of benefit for a lot of photography enthusiasts and wish that it could all continue in that same vein. My concern is that we do not know what the future holds with regard to the presence of the ability to manipulate an image upwardly in quality which would permit our images to be improved such that they become more usable than they are as we submitted them. There'll be folks who'll come back and say "that's impossible," because the sensor is just... and it will only do just... to which I would say, "is it really? EVERYTHING we are now doing in photography was 'impossible' just a few brief years ago." We do not know what the future holds.

As I've repeatedly said, at this point I'm not trying to sell my photos but that could change in the future and I don't want to find that my images are already somewhere out there being sold under someone else's name and it's perfectly legal. I've submitted quite a few fairly good photos here without doing my due diligence in reading the rules in advance. I don't want them "out there" floating around in any size or quality. I know, I just should have not tossed 'em in here. My bad. That said, there are rules regarding ownership that precede any rules that might be contrived for this site and yet I don't want to have to defend my ownership in court, now, or ever.

I believe I also saw a clause that gives admin the right to sell this whole thing lock, stock, and barrel which would include our images. The new buyer may not be as scrupulous as the current owner. There's risk to us and our current option is to submit our pictures or not to submit our pictures. Problem is, we already have.

It would seem to me that if admin wants the continued success of this site, then the rules should be re-written to say what admin says it says and means. It is just not that difficult. I can make the change, in a few minutes, at no cost if it's a matter of financial considerations. Sooner or later, this will come to a head in court and I'm not going to have a role in that. It would be better to alter the rules now.

The answer to your last question, the rules do not allow you to remove images from the site after a certain period of time from when they were submitted - an hour, I think it is.

I do enjoy the discussions and reading others advice and camera tips, but I won't post any photos. By the way, if there's a mass desertion, let me know which way you went, I'll catch up.
