These are really well done. They seem to capture the sense of the place that I missed when I visited a few years ago. Was appalled to find that someone had built a housing development on one of the battlefields.

Many years ago I had a forced stopover at Gettysburg. Truck broke down. Gave me the opportunity to take all the self guided tours around there and take photos. I must say you handled these pictures much better than my film camera could. Long live digital. Great job removing objects. After you removed the monuments and roads, did you put them back? lol

Particularly like the composition of the photograph with the field gun - well taken and processed.

I agree with you. That picture does seem to have some impact.

Wonderful shots! The B & W treatment is very effective.

In order the preserve the "sense of place", I removed some of the roads and walkways that the Park Service installed for visitors. I also removed some of the battlefield monuments. Just as a comparison, here is the original of Devil's Den with the roads in place. Quite a difference, I think

before roads were removed in pp

Thank you for your comments. Due to the "nondestructive" nature of Light Room editing, the removed objects were actually never physically touches, just removed from views. The monumental pixels are actually all still intact. lol

Somehow portraying this battlefield in color makes it "just another landscape". I've done that with battlefield scenes before. This time, I wanted something different. Thank you for taking a look and your valuable input.

I spent three days exploring and photographing the battlefield at Gettysburg. Those of you who have been to the battlefield know that there are dozens of monuments dedicated to the heroism of the combatants on the actual battlefield. In an attempt to make the photos appear more like they would have in 1863, I used PS to remove the monuments and the roads of the battlefield in many cases. No disrespect was intended by removing the monuments from the photos. I really like the photo of Devil's Den with the mist of early morning in the background. There is a road that winds its way through this impressive natural formation. I removed it, and it makes the photo look much better. I hope you enjoy these and comments are, of course, always welcome.
