I read the question 5 times to make sure it wasn't me that couldn't make sense out of it. You might want to start a new post and clarify what it is you want an answer to.

Explain to this newbie how to troll properly.

The thing that attracted me to this forum was the question above.
So have at it , I as a shooter of over twenty five years would like to know.
I am a Nikon fan, always have and always will be,
I am currently using Nikon D3x, and D800.
Would never consider changing.

The question you saw is just one of several very sly, sneaky MARKETING slogans because they know that MANY people will click and end up signing up to read the forum and ask questions!!

And it is a VERY successful trick!!

4, welcome to the Hog.
That question has never actually come up!
So, if I go into deep meditation, the answer to your query will probably come to me, and I'll be able to let you know.
But, to help me to formulate a meaningful response, I have a question for you first.
Why in the world would ANYBODY that knows ANYTHING about photography use a Nikon??!!  8-)
Again, welcome to the Hog!

That they are made in China?
That the mark up is outrageous?
I've been a shooter since I was 5, but not with a camera. I put up my guns in 1982.
And recently took the jump into DSLR after a disappointing trip to Alaska with a borrowed Cannon P&S and phone cameras.
I would consider changing from Nikon, but then I always come to my senses and wake up....
I believe in quality in anything I buy. And more than one use/function. A DSLR gives me both stills and movie capability.
And lens choices.

I really don't give a rip, myself. (Nikon-Cannon, Cannon-Nikon)
OK, lunch is over, back to my project. ;)

Am I missing something here? I thought I'd join this forum to maybe learn something that maybe I have missed or don't know about Nikon, or Canon.
I don't know, that's why I'm asking this forum.

I think what you are missing is the fact that you're asking a total irrelevant question. There certainly is nothing I am aware of that either company is trying to hide, and I'll wager no one else here is aware of that, either. Both companies produce excellent products, if there is anything you wish to know about either, ask a sensible question and you will get sensible answers from the many knowledgeable people here.

I actually asked Nikon about their technology and the response they provided was that no photographic technology can produce a better image than Nikon, but that was not the answer to the question I asked.

Back on Nov 21, 2006, Nikon Corporation was awarded US Patent 7,138,663 "Color separation device of solid-state image sensor"

http://www.google.com/patents/US7138663?

http://s20.postimg.org/qlrtb5mgd/US07138663_20061121_D00000.jpg

Where the imager no longer uses a Bayer mask to separate out the color primaries, but instead places an array of dichroic mirrors over the photo detectors to separate the spectra. Wow, a variation from Sigma's Foveon imager to also achieve the full spectra at every photosite.

My question to Nikon was "What cameras utilize the technology described in US Patent 7,138,663 ?"

They could not say, they probably did not know.

then came the marketing hype "no photographic technology can produce a better image than Nikon"

That attitude soured me on Nikon to the point that I'll never buy anything from them.

To the original question "what is it that Nikon and or Canon does not want us to know?" At least Nikon demonstrated that they wish to hide the technological advantages that make their cameras work.

You didn't really expect them to give up patented technology, now did you?
Are you serious?
Ok, back to work for me. This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Yes, it does not infringe on their patent for me to know which camera uses a specific technology so I can consider it for a potential purchase.

This is no different than asking an auto dealer what type engine is in a car.

BTW, I have a copy of their patent and my post provided a link to the freely available copy online. Patented inventions are public record, freely available to everyone. The only protection afforded by a patent is that the patent holder can take legal action against any unauthorized party using the described technology for commercial gain.

Some people here at UHH are ignorant to the advertising (trolling) UHH does all over the web to draw people to the forum.
Perhaps just plain ignorant.

HERE is the link to that bait.

vernors4- stick around.
There is useful info on this site from time to time.
I've been a full-time pro for about 40 years and have picked up some useful things here from amateurs and newbies alike.
There are dry spells at times though.

It is a come on.
But if you take it literally then what they don't want you to know is that both are great products and you cannot really go wrong with either unless you mismatch your equipment with your needs. You are into Nikon so unless you have a ton of extra cash you don't need or want to change to Canon, or any other brand.

I had never seen that. I couldn't understand why the OP said that question attracted him to UHH when he was the one asking it.

4, maybe your serious, so I'll be serious, but I can only tell you why "I" shoot with Canon and not Nikon.
I shoot everything, from portraits to sports to wildlife.
First, Canon makes WAY faster lenses than Nikon.
I like the 85mm f1.2 lens for portraits.
For sports, the 200mm f1.8 is a killer lens!
Though I don't have one yet, when I get an extra $10k I'm gonna get the 500mm mkll lens. It weighs almost 2 pounds less than the 500mm Nikon. That is huge for me, and bad, bad bad for Nikon.
I don't care about sharpness.
I don't care about DR.
I don't care about ISO.
The old junk I shoot with is good enough. But the differences I just mentioned, to me, and to high level anatuers and pros, they are KING. But you probably already know all that?!

Just last night, I read a test(another one), between the 5dlll and the new 810.
Nikon is trying to shake the label of "landscape" camera.
The Canon is 2+ years old already, the 810 is brand-new. The 810 has more mp, more DR, and more ISO range, and the Video is almost as good.

The CONCLUSION??

The 5Dmklll is STILL a better ALL-AROUND camera than the new 810.

4, I think, THAT'S what Nikon doesn't want you to know!

Have fun with your Nikons, and again, welcome!
