I would like to say that there is a way to get decent drop photos without having to spend too much money. All you need is some bright lights and a way to defuse them. I did take a photo that shows my setup if it is ok to post it I will, and some of the photos that came from it.

From lowes: Clamp on lights, 100w outdoor flood light, diffused through sheets of vellum(tracing paper), before I found vellum I used tissue paper. the clamp ons that I bought can stand up to 150w bulbs if needed. Pop-up flash with Gary Fong diffuser ($20). Foam board (wal-mart) for back drop. The foam board was not for background it was for bouncing my flash off of. Here are a few shots. The red you see is from a red flood light. I like how only part of the splash catches the red.

I prefer a lower angle to water surface. You may need to increase length or height of your colored backdrop.

Sorry, it's torn down for the moment. MY studio is also my WIFE'S laundry room :D . I had the red flood light directly to my right, level with the water at a 90 degree angle. The white flood light directly to my left, above the water (slightly), facing down at a 45 degree angle.

Well here it is, I did have a remote, but that was $35 at the camera store. I used a casserole dish inside a garbage bag, a halogen shop light (but any bright light will do), I bought two clamping spotlights at the Home Depot for $15, to defuse the light I bought a dorm room shelving unit at Walmart for $20. Everything else was pretty much around the house items. Oh the colored pieces were clear gift-wrap from the dollar store.

This is all that.
This is all that....
