Hi Greenguy33, If I take my camera bag with me I use a wrist strap but when I just take the camera I use a sling strap.
The only time I went strapless I dropped the camera, fortunately I had a lens cap on so nu damage was done!!
Cheers,
John.

I have a cotton carrier hand strap that's always on the camera, if I'm doing lots of walking around and intend to be changing lenses I install my black rapid sling strap.

OK Gutterheads: I generally use a snap strap - same concept as a ring- just easier to remove after the "photo-op" has concluded. For me, it makes the "photo-op" last longer, and my equipment tends to be more robust!

OpTech dual harness. Can carry 2 cameras, one on each side, one camera from the front, a camera on side and something else on the other side (I've hung a monopod). And, the straps that connect to the camera make a nice hand carry strap.

I tried that but exchanged it for the Double Sling.

A tip: When you're buying photo gear, the manufacturer's site will generally list items at full list price, so as not compete with their distributors. Buying from Adorama, and others, will save you money over the Op/Tech site.

I like my BossStrap, attached to the lug leaving the tripod socket open.

I have an aftermarket padded strap that saves my neck with my heavy equipment (Nikon D700 + 24-70 zoom + SB600 flash). When I need to carry a second camera I used a Rapid sling strap and hang it on my right side. In that way I can quickly access use either camera.

Don't need no stinkin' strap. Lol Hardly ever anyway, but I do carry them with me in my back pack.

I use Op/Tech, Black Rapid and occasionally a Cotton Carrier, but not at the same time. Which depends on the "project du jour". Never had a clip break or tripod mount damaged.

By the way, I've made my own version of Op/Tech's overpriced "Secure-Its" hook & loop straps. Just trim inexpensive cable straps. Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. sell them in rolls for a couple of bucks.

I find the provided strap to be a nuisance - always getting in the way so I replaced it with a a wrist strap that I use all of the time. Much safer than the provided strap that you use some of the time without it it getting in the way when you're trying to take a photograph.

You may want to look at strapworks.com. They have a very good description of the various types of webbing and their application. I haven't looked at Home Depot etc. But for a wrist strap it is not as critical as other applications.

Actually, I think straps add a touch of support, as well as safety.
Strapless sometimes isn't that alluring. It kind of let's things appear a bit too natural, or even drawn a bit.

Answering to the gutter-head side of the OP that is....

It was a joke...

Up-Strap or Black Rapid for SLR's and lightweight Tamrac straps for rangefinders.
