I have been using iPhoto in conjunction with iPhoto library manage for many years and it works great for my needs. If I need to tweak my images I use photoshop 4 but if you are experienced you should only need a place to organize and store the images and only tweak very few.
I just downloaded Aperture, from Itunes.........
I think it will come in handy, on my Mac Book Air, on my upcoming cruise vacation.......
I use iPhoto as a library program only, and PS for editing. For the most part, iPhoto is quick and easy to use & helps to keep you organized. But it was not designed to handle huge amounts of photos, and will crash occasionally when you are exporting groups of pictures out of, or into, the program. I have 80,000 photos in iPhoto, and I'm assuming about half of that number is what iPhoto was designed to handle...
I have been using I-photo for about 8 years and I think it is fine 95% of the time I also have PS elements 6 that came with my Canon PIXMA 9000 printer. I also have the Nikon NZ. I almost always come back to I photo.
As for Apple support, they are introducing a new program called Photos sometime this Fall. If you have a fairly new Mac, you should be able to support it. You can contact them to see what the system requirements are.

IPhoto came loaded on my Mac computer. I've tried different programs for editing photos but back keep going back to iPhoto. I love it!
As far as ease of use, it is second to none! The results I get are equal or better than any other program I've tried. Unless you want to get very technical and do detailed work I don't think you can beat iPhoto.
I'd love to hear a few opinions :)
I have used iPhoto extensively since we got our first Mac years ago. It has gained functionality over the years and has served for 99% of my editing. The major drawback for me was our club requiring digital submission to be 1050x1400 (how) pixels. For this I would use pse. Since apple's announcement I have started using LR and PSE 12. I also have CS6. Using the Abode products I have been able to do some edits I couldn't accomplish in iPhoto.
I will miss an old friend, but I believe after the learning curves I will be ahead.

I use iPhoto for downloading my jpeg shots. It does a commendable job in providing easy-to-use basic post processing techniques to improve the photos. However, when needing more tools I simply turn to Elements to complete the job.

Tell me what you think and possible improvements? Appreciate all the feedback and thoughts! :)
Maybe this photo could use some stronger editing.....perhaps lose the Porta-Potties!

Yes - but your late on the scene. See page 2 pic
It is a fine basic program, but I am finally getting into Photoshop CC which will allow me to do so much more. If you do not want to take that leap you might want to try some of the MacPhun.com add ons to iPhoto, SnapHeal Pro will let you clean those things out of the photo you don't want, like the stray tourist, Intensify and Focus are also by them and are good add-ons. They all have free trials.
I have NX2, Lightroom, Elements, Picasa and Nikon's newer beta program but iPhoto and Aperture work for me! I try and keep the tweaking simple. I have friends that are PhotoShop mavens and I call them if I need something special.
Apple is changing to a new photo editor.

If you cropped out the porta - potties then the bike would have nowhere to go?
The bike would have nowhere to go? Or did you mean the biker would have nowhere to go?

I also love it. I do very little "hard core" image manipulation... so it works well for me.
Also have Aperture which apparently is being phased out.

What port-a-potties?
I like how you got rid of the port-a-potties! Can you explain how you did that please :)
