So far, I have about 200 empty ink cartridges from my Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Is there a market for them? I was about to pitch them when I started thinking how they were $15 per when new... whew!
I take all my used HP cartridges to Staples and get credit of $2 or $3 on my Staples Reward Card.

Do you have a Cartridge World near you? They refill cartridges for a lot less than buying new and you get to reuse insteead of trashing. If they don't have one maybe you could look into the franchise and open one yourself
If you have an "OFFICE DEPOT" near, they give credit for returned cartridges. $1.00 I think.

Micro Center gives you $3 each credit for a single sale on SOME cartridges, not all. 8-)
Watch out for empty promises for empty cartridges!
We took our empty cartridges to be traded in. We were told we'd get a coupon in the mail to be used for our next purchase. This was about 6 months ago and still no coupon. Very disappointing treatment from a "reputable" company!

My take: NEVER! --well, ok, never say never-- use 3rd party inks!
I've tried them and within six months they turned a sickening smudge.
It's a bad place to save money.

It depends on who you buy the third party cartridges from. Some fill all brands with the same inks. The good ones match the manufacturers ink formula and you can't tell the difference.
I have been using third party inks (when you could refill the Canon ink tanks) and cartridges for over 10 years and haven't had anyone that could tell the difference.
Who are the good ones that match inks? I have an Epson Artisan 710.
Canon will void any warranty on your printer if you use a 3rd party ink.
Inkproducts.com. They are located in Babson Park, Fl. They used to have a storin Eagle ridge Mall but gave it up. Now they just do internet. Have been dealing with them for years. Order it today and you will have it sometimes the next day.

Like Sarge said, Staples. They give $2 per cartridge, no matter what cartridge, but I think there's a monthly limit as to how many you can turn in. The rewards expire in a few months so you probably can dump 30 or more on them, and spend the money at Staples. I do it all the time.

Two of the sources that I have used and guarantee their product are LDProducts.com and InkJetSuperstore.com
Their prices are a significant savings versus the manufacturers.

No manufacturer can not honor a warranty if you use third party parts / supplies and have a problem that isn't related to the third party item. That would be like auto manufacturers saying you couldn't have anything done to your car unless you used their parts / supplies. That includes Canon.
The third party would be liable if their item fails or causes a problem.
