We Pentaxians aren't hiding, it's just hard to find us in all the Canikon noise. ;) But if you check my post history you'll see I've been somewhat vocal about encouraging people to think beyond the Canikon juggernaut :D

I've been shooting Pentax most of my photographic life. My first SLR was a K-1000 and my current one is a K-r. I like that the shake reduction is in the body on Pentax DLSRs and that I can use the lenses from my K-1000, as well as every other K-mount lens ever made and still get the benefits of shake reduction. I can even use M42 screw-mount lenses, with an adapter.

But most importantly, I think photos from my K-r is as good as or better than the equivalent Canikon models and I especially love the low light performance of my K-r.

I've been a Pentax user since about about 1950, and still am. Here's a photo taken last year at a fireman's parade. I wonder how the drum major reacted. I love the photo ... not so much for its technical attributes, but for the captured moment in time.

hi; nice to see a pentaxian older[pentax user] than me..from all post I've seen[this/other threads],I was beginning to think I was a dinosaur,,,I started with spotmatic in 1959..loved it then/love it now..currently using x-70[best I could afford/handle]..would prefer the old-two rings/one dial,"click", to all this, push this button/get that screen/push,push to select that option,touch/push to select that-'whatever',etc,etc-adneousiam[sp] to finally set up to take a simple pic..
but I LOVE MY PENTAX...---joe

Have been shooting Pentax for 30 years. Started with a Pentax KM. Have collected over 30 different film cameras in perfect working order. Have them all displayed in a beautiful case. Have a K10 for back up & a K5 that I bought this last Xmas. Pentax is a wonderful camera & love the fact that you can use any Pentax lens you have for them. Have posted several photos here if ya want to check them out. I have to agree with some others here that it's not the camera per-say its the one behind it & the glass in frt of it that will get the nice photos. It takes time for most & a lot of practice to accomplish what it is your after. Most people don't have a photography career in mind when they buy there first camera, & I feel there's only a select few who have the gift of being a natural photographer in there veins. I'm certainly not one of those gifted ones & consider myself as an average photographer. It's just a hobby that takes my mind & soul to a new level in life. This site has many, many wonderful shooters & I'm happy to have found so many that have so much great knowledge & kindness that overwhelms at times. It's nice to post a photo & get an honest opinion whether good or bad. That's why I'm here. The shooters here love their equipment, love what they do, & enjoy helping others. That being said, Here's to Pentax & all the wonderful years & photos they have giving me.

I think you'll find your 68 model to be a screw mount, probably Spotmatic, since Pentax didn't build the K Mount until 1975. The K1000 was a stripped down (no self timer, DOF preview, etc) version of the Spotmatic. It's still one of the most recommended cameras for film students.

Maybe I am totally wrong, but I thought the Spotmatic wasn't even introduced until 1964 as the Asahi Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic?

The Spotmatic was made from 64-76. I bought one from the PX in Viet Nam in 68. I think Honeywell was the US distributor for Asahi thus the Honeywell designation.

That was my understanding, thanks.
Not sure if any Pentaxians here even realize it, but Asahi was the first Japanese camera maker to use the 35mm film format in 1951.

Right here. Started out backpacking and climbing with a K1000 back when I had a wet darkroom in the 60s and now have an *istD and a K-X. The Pentax is arguably a best buy. You'd have to spend a ton of money to get anything better. I have a frustrated friend who put out big money for Leica back in the day darkroom days and now Nikons who can't stand the fact that his prints aren't better than mine. Also at higher ISOs the Pentax is superb. I'm looking at print from an ISO of 12800 that is unbelievable to an old Tri-X pushed to 800 guy with grain the size of marbles [noise to the younger generation]

In the day (1953-54), I too had a wet darkroom and processed my 35mm from an Argus -3, and 120, 620, and 127 from box cameras, Kodak, and Rolleicord (sister to Rolleiflex). Loved my old Kodak Hawkeye 620, and Brownie 127.
