One question...What is a pension?

Somehow I get the idea you're joking. If not...it's my main source of income. When I was teaching, the BoE matched money that I contributed to a retirement fund.
Or, perhaps you're leading me into a DISCUSSION for some reason.

I am replying to your question while sitting in the Hong Kong airport on my way home from China. I decided to purchase a monopod to take on this trip and researched the hell out of it. After looking at all the brands and all the materials I decided on a Siuri aluminum 5 section. It collapses down to 15 inches and weighs in at just over a pound. The advantages of carbon fiber over aluminum did not justify the price to me. I think I payed around $50 for it and it served me very well. Kept my camera steady and when collapsed was a great deterant to shills trying to sell you stuff. I put a Manfrotto quick release head on it which made it perfect.

I hope you find what you want. By the way, it comes with a belt holder that makes it very easy to carry.

Last I looked, Costco online has a $50 Dolica lightweight collapsible-to-12" tripod that has a leg that can be removed for use as a monopod. I've been reasonably satisfied with Dolica products as lightweight travel options.

I also have a hiking staff (forgot name of brand) that I use reliably for hiking that has a removable knob which exposes a tripod screw.

Finally, for ultimate lightweight and el-cheapo-ness, I use a tripod-threaded eye-bolt with a monopod-length cord which I step on. By putting it under my foot and providing a slight amount of upward pressure, it creates a pretty stable platform, which easily slips into my pocket. For the deluxe version of this model, attach the bottom of the string to a bamboo back-scratcher (World Market / Cost Plus, etc., $2) for more stability, plus you now have a tool for accessing those hard-to-reach itches.

Think about this. Spend 20 on a monopod and it will end up in the trash , never mind the shots you've blown. So the next monopod you get will be 20 dollars more because of your first monopod. Spend 70 instead of 90.

Why risk your camera investment on a $20 monopod. Bite the bullet get a Manfrotto, mine more than 10 years old still works, I have repainted and touched it up, replaced the bottom rubber tip with a set I found at a hardware store. I use it every shoot and it saves my shoulders,
