DonB: Suggestion: I had hand surgery a while back and learned to use voice to text software. Worked nicely, try it. However, that wont help with capturing and processing images. Take care.

I had rotator cuff surgery last Thursday on my left shoulder. It is really painful. I will be in a sling for 6 weeks and cannot use the arm. I think this will really impact my photography as well as other summer activities. My typing was bad before.....now it'll take forever.

I broke my shoulder in two places and I still feel pain from the injury from last November.

I have a couple of suggestions. Take your therapy seriously and don't miss any appointments. When you are well enough for strength exercises make sure you work slow with weights. You will have a lot of strength loss that needs to be recovered. Above all be patient and diligent.

Speedy recovery. I have heard that is one painful surgery and recovery. Hopefully the 6 weeks will fly by!

I am only few days ahead of you. One week ago Friday I had shoulder surgery to reattach a torn tendon and move back a displaced tendon. Sling for 5 more weeks after first post surgery visit with the surgeon. Then comes therapy. He is having me do 4 exercises with arm and shoulder several times a day. I feel your pain and photography withdrawal systems too. Best luck to both of us.

Rapid healing! I just started therapy after I broke my foot in a motorcycle accident. It's been horrible not being able to hike and take pictures. This too will pass.

Lot of pointers regarding PT. I found that they hurt you less if you take cookies, brownies.... Rice crispy treats work well too. :D

I've had three shoulder surgeries (both involved). If you do the physical therapy seriously you will probably recover full, painfree, use of the shoulder(s) as I have. Good luck and do the therapy, at home as well as the therapist's.

I have had 2 shoulder surgeries, both left. 1st time i was scoped, that wasnt too bad. 2nd time they cut about a 4 inch opening and repaired rotator cuff and torn labrum (sp). That was pretty rough. One thing that helped a lot was a new type of sling that pumped cold water over the swollen area. If you dont have one try to get one, it really cuts down on inflammation which causes discomfort. I got antsy and started lifting things i probably shouldnt have. Im a stubborn Mc but if i had to do it again i would adhere to dr.s exact suggestions. My shoulder still pops and lets me know 24 hours in advance before its going to rain or snow. Good luck and take it easy.

Don,years ago rotator surgery was recommended on my left. Had it on my right. Hurt but not bad. Anyway, since the left did not bother my golf game, chose to decline. Now it hurts and is inoperable--- but I can still swing the club. Better you had it in the long haul

Strange story... I had that surgery on my right arm, (I am right handed). A week or so after I was walking along my local country road with my arm bracketed out to my side when I walked by a guy sitting in his truck eating lunch. He asked what I had done and I told him. He smiled and told me to make sure to do exactly what the physical therapist told me to do. He had "Outsmarted" his and ended up having the big painful open surgery to fix what went wrong because he didn't follow instructions. From there on I did everything rigidly as instructed; no more, no less. I didn't know the guy, and have never seen him since. My recovery has been excellent thanks to the diligence of my surgeon, therapist, and wife for cracking the whip. Recover well and rapidly...

Have a speedy recovery Don.
I have had both of them done.
A word of advice.
Do the rehab religiously.
When the doc says you can move it try doing your finger walks in the shower with the water on HOT.
then ice after.
You will be doing a lot of home stuff.
If you want to get the strength and mobility back do you rehab every day.Good luck!

After a massive stroke that paralyzed my left side, I've been typing with just one hand for 10 years. Don't worry about how long it will take to type, you will be amazed how short a time it takes to figure out how to get back to it.
