What a sissy. I see actors on tv all the time getting shot in the shoulder and getting up to save the day. Cowboys get shot and just ride off to get the bad guy. Monty Python said it well with, "Its only a flesh wound." Now that being said, I know your pain. I had my left shoulder done twice and my right shoulder done once. I played too many sports in life and am now paying for it. You have gotten a lot of great advice sit down and use your other arm while you recover. It takes awhile, but do the therapy and for god's sake, DON'T FALL.

That is the best explanation of P&S I've heard.

I injured my left shoulder over a year ago. No surgery but painful as heck moving or putting pressure while lifting.

VA gave me a 'Tens Unit' which is 4 electrical pads and a device with 4 modules with 3 settings each. Pumps electrical shock into the shoulder with varying strengths.

Some modules and strengths are extremely annoying but it seems to be working very good. Can sleep on left shoulder now without pain.

Special instructions are " Do Not Use On Or Near Genitals "

You might try speech-to-text on your computer to avoid typing. It may already be on your computer and just needs to be activated and used. It may not work with uhh but it will with a word processor which can be cut and pasted into uhh. You might never revert to typing. Also, get a remote trigger setup which you can punch from the sling. One-handed is very doable with some imagination. Been there, done that - both shoulders messed up. Might look at something like this with a strap around your neck to support the weight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfdXKOuj95U

Good luck with a speedy recovery.

Lots of good advice from people who have been there.
The physical therapists know what they're doing, even though you might not think so at the time. Hang in there, and lots of luck in your recovery.

I wish you a quick recovery. Now is the time to put on a fast 35mm or 50mm lens; put the camera on A or P (I know that's blasphemy); use auto-focus; and try to get some "decisive moment" pictures.

In the way of a morale boost, let me share that I've had two cuff surgeries in my mid-seventies -- both with serious invasive, not laproscopic, procedures, and I'm back to almost 100% in both shoulders. The secret? Doing the suggested follow-up PT exercises exactly as prescribed.

For the past four years I've been lugging around my two heavy Canons with their super-zooms over four continents with nary a problem. Good luck!

And there's always TV.

Jerry if he can't hold his camera up to take a photo how do you expect him to hold a TV up to take a photo. Besides, the learning curve for the software is intensive.

I am assuming that you are a left-handed person, as the type of injury generally happens on the most used arm. Whether left or right handed, you can Google up "one-handed photography" and you will find lots of creative approaches. Here is an example I found purely at random, but you will find hundreds of them. I hope you will find some useful ones, but I wish you a good and prompt recovery.
