I have a 5Dlll also. I have lots of Canon gear & have been shooting with Canon for a long time. I have had in the past to have been attacked by a very aggressive Nikon supporter. This was at least a year ago & she was so relentless & unreasonable the it has made me gun shy & a little defensive about Nikon vs Canon wars. Because of this I offended someone unintentionally not long ago. This has caused me to not participate very much, but if I see a question about something I can help with, I sometimes respond. Bab

that's because they don't make images with them. just walk around with them thinking they look cool. you can always spot one via the neck strap with the large letters spelling out "Canon". that's because they often forget what they've bought. the least used item in their collection of lenses is the instruction book. (hee-hee)

I never use the neck strap that comes with my cameras. I know a lot of Canon users that don't either. The neck strap is the least efficient way to carry your camera. Hand strap is my favorite. Bab

Does anyone in here own a Sony or Pentax DSLR? why are they so quite? Maybe because they are too busy creating photos and not fighting?? ;)

I learned long ago, thieves can't read. I think the word, Canon, or Nikon actually says "steal me". So, I have a drawer with three un-used Canon neck straps. I now carry my camera slung over my shoulder using a strap labeled "Op/Tech" and my thief deterrent labeled "Walther".

Easy remedy for that, just use a KODAK neck strap on your Nikon or Canon.

I scan the discussion list most days & usually find that most are about Nikon. Maybe UHH was started by Nikon people. I do not find it very user friendly to anyone but Nikon users. The Nikon users tend to be very active & very aggressive in general. If I don't see anything interesting or someone I can help, I leave & go about my day. I think that good photographs are taken everyday by many different types of equipment & I think that the photographer is more important than what he or she uses. I use Canon & I am happy with my results. Today's cameras are all so good that the only limitations are those brought by the photographer, not the equipment. Bab

Perhaps the teacher in my is leading me to always look on the good side. My first impression was that this board did have a higher population of Nikon users than Canon users. Why should that matter, really? I won't learn much about the Nikon cameras or lenses, but there are plenty of post that refer to photography itself. And I well remember what it was like when I began in the DSLR days back in 2005. Why not pay it forward and help those who are beginning now? And besides, from discussions on RAW and HDR and PS CC, I continue to learn as much as I've already learned. Whoever the sysop is, he/she continues to move topics forward, on a daily basis, that keeps this board interesting. There's always something for everyone, and I appreciate all the effort. Stay positive folks, there's plenty for everyone.

Seriously for a second (I hate to do this!), I have no idea when you were driving, but, once, in the 1960's while stateside, I drove a tractor-trailer hauling a missile of some kind from somewhere in the south to a base in the northwest. The thing was, of course, escorted by many vehicles, but I can't find anything about it online. Top of the cab = 21' 8", overall (articulated) length was about 122'. I have no recall of what company might have built it and I'd sorta like to know. Any ideas?

Also, in my day, Marmon was very popular with logging companies . . .

All I can say for sure is that if it was a military vehicle then it was made by the lowest bidder!

Welcome Bookkooker, I joined UHH several months ago, shocked by the title (still wondering about the origin) but very impressed with the membership. We get equal pleasing images and the actual name on the camera makes little differences. . . So to you, I say: welcome fellow Canon user. To all others, I say thanks for the great company, and the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Maybe we should suggest to Admin that the name be changed to "Beautiful Hedgehog." :?:

I will say that there seems to be more problems or issues on UHH with Nikon than any other brand but I believe those problems are "user" issues and not "equipment" failures. Nikon is an excellent product but you will not become a better photographer simply by changing from Canon to any other brand.

Touche'

Exactly! If switching to brand "x" or brand "z" made one a better photographer we all would have switched. Knowing your gear is the hump to get over in nearly every endeavor. Skill and talent are something else entirely but they are both on my Christmas list...

you betcha - gives you so much more opportunity to hit something with it. oddly enough, i guess, in combat, we use neck straps - guess that made us unlettered when carrying our gear.

Surely you aren't serious. I see hundreds of posts where both Nikon and Canon users do everything they can to help one another. Most simply say it doesn't matter what you shoot with. Most of the banter is tongue in cheek.
