Oh my god. Blah, blah, blah. I think several of you who are just making up this crap to further your agenda. For every case you site I can give you many more where while terminating their pregnancy wasn't their only choice, they at least had a choice. Why don't you people get over yourselves. Like I said earlier you just like beating that dead horse! While I might have never have had to make that choice, I know it is still legal and safe because whether you agree or not women will chose to have an abortion and it is really none of your business.

But then who will speak up for the baby. We all know about Dr. Gosnell who delivered babies still alive and who would have survived. What about those babies and others who should have a say but their voice was eliminated.

I think abortion should be legal. But I also think it is too easy to get an abortion. A woman can go out and have sex without caring if she gets pregnant and then simply make it all go away. Where is the responsibility?

When I began this thread I could never have guessed how many turns it would take.

Now we are considering abortion. It is a classic example of the great political divide in this country. One extreme says there should almost never be a good reason to allow abortion. The other extreme says a woman should have the right to decide to abort right up to delivery.

Is there no way we can arrive at a compromise that says:

1. Pregnancy is a human condition that is more special than relieving your bladder (BTW - try to pee in the wrong place and see what trouble that can cause.)

2. Society has an legitimate interest in limiting the removal of potential income producers/Social Security contributors.

3. Society has a legitimate interest in protecting its young women (e.g., teenagers) from the potential psychological damage caused by pregnancy termination.

4. There should be a cut-off date for making the decision to remove the potential citizen, even if the pregnancy is the result of criminal assault. (Several European countries use 12 weeks as the cut off. Texas tried to set it at 20 weeks (when there is considerable sonogram ... and premature delivery...evidence of how developed a fetus actually is), and it led to the celebration and rise of Wendy Davis as a candidate for governor.

Within that framework, I'm sure there could be a compromise.

It's not that simple.

Of course it isn't. I am not trying to solve all of the world's problems in two paragraphs. I am simply giving a sampling of my thoughts.

Of course it is the woman's body and she should have the right to do with it what she wants. But with all freedoms there is also responsibility that comes with it. If a woman is indiscriminate about who she sleeps with and has a habit of having abortions should that be acceptable in society? My thinking is if she does that then why should I have to pay for it ever if at all?

You will notice that not once have I mentioned any religious here. I am talking in the realm of common sense.

I do agree!
