The BR will also work with the M-Plate Pro, an almost universal mount:

Thank you, I've already order two things to try. If they fail, this will be #3.

Lauren, I haven't mentioned this here, but I've posted it on other threads. I have retrofitted my entire BR system, including adding a second connector (which necessitated adding extra components to the strap). With the two connectors and the tether kit (which includes two tethers), I now have an R7 which attaches to BOTH strap lugs, leaving my tripod socket free to attach any of my QR plates (although one plate is modified with the Fastner Tripod on the Manfroto 234RC plate). Right now, I'm waiting for a set of Lockstar connector covers to prevent the connectors from scratching the camera. The point of this is that, much like the OpTech system, the flexibility of the BR system is limited only by your imagination. I also use a BR wrist strap (with Lockstar) as my primary carry tool for my 3200, attached, of course, to my strap lugs.

To solve that problem, I use a Boss Tail (which attaches to the strap holder on the left side of the camera body) instead of the screw-on grommet that comes with the BR strap.

I have one for each of my cameras and I love them.

I wouldn't trust my camera & lens to a cheap fix.
I just ordered the acra swift clamp.

I went with the Op/Tech system to solve the problem. I leave the lens mounting plates on the lens and the camera as most of my shooting is done with a tripod and a gimbel mount.

There were a few posts here reporting failures with the tripod sockets. I am worried about this and wonder what people think of that problem.

A fine discussion of that was provided above.

I know you have been looking at ways to carry your camera and lenses. So I thought I would take the time and opportunity to describe what I use.
What I use starts with a 3 inch wide military style web belt( $10 most places). To this I add workmens suspenders ($10 at Lowes and others) I use oversize Tamrac lens cases - these were made to go on this style belt. These cases proably go for $20-30 now at most places - there are a lot of different sizes. For the longest case I use a leather shoe lace to tie the bottom of the case to my leg to keep it from moving around to undesireable angles. Below are a few photos to illustrate. This way, I either carry the camera unencumbered (no strap to dangle) in my hands or the camera/lens are carried holster style ( hands free). Note that the lens and camera (mostly) are protected. The bottom of the camera is free to use for quick release plates. If you have a lens with a tripod collar, make sure the lenscase you get is big enough to accomodate this. Also, make sure the case is long enough to accomodate the lenshood being left on the lens so as to always be ready for use !

I've been using the "Fusion Plate" from http://fpgear.com/. Ended up buying a second one. Leave on on my D800 and leave the other one on my 70-200 connects to Black Rapid strap and my Arca Swiss tripod mount.

I've tried a few. Now, I use & like the "Fusion Plate" http://fpgear.com. The ring for the Black Rapid stays out of the way, yet is easy to swing out.

Another choice is the "M-Plate Pro Tripod Plate", http://www.customslr.com/products/m-plate-pro . Before I got the "Fusion Plate", this was my favorite. With some lenses, I prefer the way the camera hangs from the Black Rapid. I can also put the camera on a tripod with the strap still connected. The only downside is that the strap attachment section interferes with attaching/detaching some lenses.

I think this - http://www.lightinthebox.com/camera-hook-support-board_p600834.html?pos=ultimately_buy_1 - will work for you also. I do not trust boss straps or tails. I know they have "good" credentials .......Thank you for posting your question - it has really got me thinking.

Thanks for that URL. Looks nice so I ordered one. We will see. Can't beat the price.

Thank you for the link. It was frightening. My strap uses the tripod screw but yet is still hold the camera as much as possible. I have spent the last hour looking for the strap that came with the camera.

Having heard from Canon and Nikon, I would like to hear how the strap manufacturers respond.

I'm hoping that someone can help me with information for a device that will allow me to be able attach my cross body Black Rapid Sling, as well as my tripod mount.

I have a Sirui G10-KX ball head on my tripod, with the TY-50x quick release plate. I also have the Women's Black Rapid cross body sling which comes with a ConnectoR-2 and a FastenR-3.

My problem is that I cannot find a way to use both, without having to constantly screw and unscrew one or the other. I have even considered attaching the strap to the ring on the tripod quick release plate, however, the ConnectoR-2 won't fit it. Black Rapid offers a tripod fastener, however, it only fits a Manfrotto head. (I tried it anyway, and it's too thick).

Has anyone else had this problem, and found an answer?

Welcome, Mr. Fliger - perhaps you can dispel the worries (that have been mentioned elsewhere as well as in this thread) about using the camera's threaded tripod socket as a mounting point for a strap support.

Is it possible that camera bodies made of plastic are susceptible to the possibility of the tripod mount failing when the camera is hung from it? I've been using BlackRapid and RRS plates for a long time and never had a problem, but it seems some folks are concerned (or convinced) that this is a bad idea.

Lee, you are right. It is not a problem. It happens only once to a camera and lens. The nice thing about digital is that you still have all your images on your card whereas with film, you would loose some if not all your exposures (35 mm versus 120). And if you just spent $3000 on your vacation, you can surely buy another camera locally in minutes.

Does any strap manufacturer guarantee against this highly, highly improbable occurrence? Meanwhile, I am rethinking my strap situation.
