Mount for Both Sling & Tripod?

I'm hoping that someone can help me with information for a device that will allow me to be able attach my cross body Black Rapid Sling, as well as my tripod mount.

I have a Sirui G10-KX ball head on my tripod, with the TY-50x quick release plate. I also have the Women's Black Rapid cross body sling which comes with a ConnectoR-2 and a FastenR-3.

My problem is that I cannot find a way to use both, without having to constantly screw and unscrew one or the other. I have even considered attaching the strap to the ring on the tripod quick release plate, however, the ConnectoR-2 won't fit it. Black Rapid offers a tripod fastener, however, it only fits a Manfrotto head. (I tried it anyway, and it's too thick).

Has anyone else had this problem, and found an answer?

To solve that problem, I use a Boss Tail (which attaches to the strap holder on the left side of the camera body) instead of the screw-on grommet that comes with the BR strap.

with the peak design leash I get 4 quick detach tabs, I leave the little quick disconnect tabs on my power grip (1), camera body (2) and my RRS camera plate (1). I switch quite often between the camera plate and the power grip (depending on what I want...a small camera or a large camera).

Great, hope it works well for you. I bought mine a the NECCC conference (from the Hunt's Camera table) last summer.

I think this - http://www.lightinthebox.com/camera-hook-support-board_p600834.html?pos=ultimately_buy_1 - will work for you also. I do not trust boss straps or tails. I know they have "good" credentials .......Thank you for posting your question - it has really got me thinking.

Well, since you've ordered the bosstrap, I may be too late with this comment, but elsewhere here on UHH someone else posed a similar question and one of the responses recommended the Mini Clamp DAC-25 Desmond 25mm Arca-Swiss Compatible (w/3 Strap Bosses) Boss, which I ordered from Amazon for about $20. I screw the BlackRapid ConnectR to this, which I can quickly detach from the bottom of the camera when I need to mount it on a tripod.

The major difference is that this method makes best use of the inherent balancing the bottom-based connection of the BlackRapid offers - by dangling the camera/lens combination by one of the neckstrap lugs it makes it more awkward (IMHO) to easily reach down and grab the camera in a proper hold.

I know you have been looking at ways to carry your camera and lenses. So I thought I would take the time and opportunity to describe what I use.
What I use starts with a 3 inch wide military style web belt( $10 most places). To this I add workmens suspenders ($10 at Lowes and others) I use oversize Tamrac lens cases - these were made to go on this style belt. These cases proably go for $20-30 now at most places - there are a lot of different sizes. For the longest case I use a leather shoe lace to tie the bottom of the case to my leg to keep it from moving around to undesireable angles. Below are a few photos to illustrate. This way, I either carry the camera unencumbered (no strap to dangle) in my hands or the camera/lens are carried holster style ( hands free). Note that the lens and camera (mostly) are protected. The bottom of the camera is free to use for quick release plates. If you have a lens with a tripod collar, make sure the lenscase you get is big enough to accomodate this. Also, make sure the case is long enough to accomodate the lenshood being left on the lens so as to always be ready for use !

Boy, that is really an elaborate system. The first picture reminded me of a gun slinger from the old west. I can see how that would be convenient. I know I have a lot to learn, and hopefully, I'll find a good method for myself. Thank you for your help, complete with pictures.

I do have a concern about the balance, however, when looking into the Boss strap, I found emails from both Canon and Nikon discouraging the use of the bottom based connection for hanging your camera. According to them, the inherent receptacle for the screw (threads on the inside) are not designed to hang the camera from, and could cause damage to the threads. So, it's damned if you do, or damned if you don't. I'll try the strap, and if it is too cumbersome, I'll look at something else. Thank you for your input, and I might end up going there in the future....

This is the one I use with my California Sun Sniper sling stap. Not any issues at all.

Thank you for your link. I had looked at that as well, however, it appears to me that it also screws into the bottom of the camera, and I would still have to remove it to attach my tripod plate. That's what I'm trying to get away from, as it's a pain in the neck to keep having to remove one to attach the other. Am I mistaken in the way I'm looking at this attachment?

Thanks Again,

Yes, you are mistaken - the plate screws to the camera bottom and your quick release plate screws into the head of the plate screw. So you have your QR and a place to hook your strap. I Think there is enough room for your QR plate - that is the only real question ....

Oh, I revisited the link, and I can see what you mean. Hummm, you know, it's not that expensive, I think I'll order it as well. :D That way , I can try both!

Thank you for explaining how it worked.

The BR will also work with the M-Plate Pro, an almost universal mount:
