Hi Linda From Maine: A nice set of photos. How did you discover the nest
across the river?

Thank you all so much for taking the time to view and comment. I appreciate it!

Re #6 with head thrown back (hb3) - it was making its seagull-sounding call, not sure what means. So much to learn about bird behavior!

Location (photonutbob) - this is part of the Yakima River Canyon Scenic Byway. A couple of years ago a friend pointed out the nest as we drove along, watching for deer, bighorn sheep and more. The nest has been occupied annually (by the same couple) for awhile now. In the winter, there can be 10 - 20 bald eagles hanging out in this 25-mile treasure. Here's more info:

Nice set, Linda. I finally shot my first eagles in the wild a couple of months ago on some property in South Bossier Parish about 15 miles from me. Such incredible birds. After about 10 minutes, I laid the camera down and just watched them. :)

Thank you all so much for your kind words! I'm very happy you enjoyed :)

Quote Mallardo: "After about 10 minutes, I laid the camera down and just watched them." ...That is great to hear, John! It took me many months to realize that sometimes just being in the moment is worth so much more than a so-so image :)

Left the house at 5:40 a.m. So glad I did :)

After bringing in a small fish, a mere 15 minutes after I arrived at 6:20, the parent landed on the NEAR shore - yippee! It stayed there for an hour, while the spot went from full shade to full sun. So neat :)

I was surprised to see no squabbling over the meal. The hierarchy is well established, apparently.

Canon SX50 burst mode at equiv. 1200 mm, edits in PSE 12 and Topaz Detail. Several are heavily cropped.

Thanks for viewing!

Lots of pecking order there. Fantastic series, Linda. I finally saw my first soaring Eagle a few weeks ago over the bay and was amazed at the wingspan. They really are majestic birds.

Thanks so much for your kind words, Donna. I'm really happy to know you got to see an eagle in flight. I am learning to sometimes just put down the camera and savor the moment :)

Eagle parents generally have one chick; but sometimes have two. They will feed and nuture the largest and strongest of the two. The weaker of the two, even if it survives, will always be an outcast.
