Well, I started this thread, and I'm gonna vote twice. My second vote goes to my all time favorite, W. Eugene Smith.

David,
Eugene Smith was a GREAT Photographer, a man of action and captured the human condition on a grand scale. I have several books of his works.

this is a myth. Ansel did not have "all day", as you put it. while he did take many trips, it's important to remember that he worked as a portrait photographer. i think people have the idea that the classic photographers were all wealthy and had nothing better to do.
HI Dog. What are the names of the books?

Hi David,
Sorry for the delay, this was Mother's Day, wife walked in on me and gave me that look we all know!! Any way, I am back and the answer to your question is: 1) The Big Book. 2) W. Eugene Smith (reprint), 3) Let Truth Be the Prejudice, 4) Dream Street and 5) Shadows and Substance-The Life Work of an American Photographer. I have another one but can't find it, must have lent it out and never got it back! Title is Eugene Smith, Master of the Photographic Essay series...

Why is it "silly" to discuss books (especially by and about photographers and photography) on a photography site? Also, to like books is not to view them as fetishes.

FIRST OFF pin-head, I was answering the question David asked of me. Second off, this thread was started by David and I suggest you go back and re-read the question he asked us... Thirdly if it had not been for great photographers that you and I could learn from in the past, you would be in a dark cave someplace wondering where fire came from. Either contribute positively to this thread or find someone else to harass!
Thank you...

David and others, forgive me, pin-heads tend to set me off center at times!!
