I agree. Most photographers at sometime will drop something. Doesn't mean they were careless, just means things happen.

wsa111, please ignore "Cthahn the troll" comment, he always has to start crap with people all the time. Anyway, you may try to Google for a Nikon authorized repair shop in your area before sending it to Nikon. Hope you find one close and that they can repair it inexpensively.

Thanks guys, at least i did not drop my new 24-70mm f2.8 which i just received yesterday morning.
It was a freak accident. I set the 80-400mm on the smooth top of the washing machine on the end cap to the camera body walked away & one minute later i heard a bam noise from the laundry room. The lens slid slowly off the washer lid top hit the lip & fell onto the throw rug on the floor.
I just filled out the form on Nikons web site & will ship it out Monday. Bill

Oh boy was111, one thing I would give advice on.... NEVER change lenses in a laundry room, there's way too much dust coming from the dryer and vents that may have an air leak. :)

You bought an expensive lens but were careless with using it. Your problem.
Even the most careful person makes mistakes, and at times bad ones. Fatigue, overwork, illness, and various kinds of distractions can causes these. It amazes me that instead of offering a good suggestion, or some empathy for the man's misfortune, you chastise him for it.

Dirtbag??? wow what a response from someone who was just trying to help. YOU should be the one banned from this forum. By the way moron, the dryer does NOT need to be on you idiot. I see you are another one of those loser trolls lol. BY the way, now that I see you are an idiot, you deserved to have your lens dropped and broke.......hopefully it can't be fixed and you have to spend $$$ to take crappy pics again lol
Yes, low self-esteem sometimes tempts people to get testy so they can feel good about themselves. When low self-esteem is the problem, the solution may be to raise your self-esteem in a positive way perhaps by counting your blessings or by taking yourself out to lunch. By the way I also have dropped lenses, guitars, cameras, laptops, and broken an entire dish set (over thirty years). Perhaps the next mayor in New York will put people in a better mood (Wm Rogers, campaign manager).

Ya I just gave some advice on not changing lenses in a laundry room to do excessive dust and he just goes off on me. <shrugs>.
Ya I did respond unkindly to his (the op) remarks and should have just ignored it, how I responded was no better than his outburst. I will try better next time someone insults me :)
For Repair I just used KEH which has a set price and was much quicker then nikon. Worth a look I was very pleased with my repair

I took a fall in the river with mine and was sick about it. I took it to the nearest Nikon approved repair and they said it was a total loss. With that little paper I bought a new camera and lens. I am not sure this will help, for those trolls that are sure to throw rocks.
Hi. My name is Rick. Im the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. Ive been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.
I'd be more than happy to repair the lens for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If youre interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

I just dropped one of my Nikon zoom lenses from about 4 feet onto a throw rug on a linoleum floor
No apparent external damage & can look through lens ok, however unable to rotate the zoom ring its locked on 80.
Unable to focus lens also. The focus power is supplied by the camera, this lens does not have the motor in the lens.
Has anyone been there & any idea of possible cost.
I have insurance with a $500.00 deductible.
I hate to submit a claim even if the estimate is $750.00.
